    I. also, had tea with Sarge yesterday. I am relatively new to all this, having had my MV less than a year. I knew the story about Katrina already, but I did not know Sarge had lost a son. Crying in front of your computer is not a good way to start a Monday, but I couldn't help it. As a parent, I cannot imagine the sense of loss he went through. He is an amazing man, in many aspects, and a wonderful human being. I enjoy every minute that I get to spend with him, and aspire to be half the man he is.

I spent Katrina and Rita in Iraq. We crowded around the tv watching things unfold AFN and CNN. Most of us wanted to go home to help right then and there. I talked to my family shortly after and they told me Red Cross kept calling for me, as im a volunteer. I wish there had been two of me.

Sarge doesn't say much here mainly because his dial-up internet connection is sooo bad that it takes hours to do anything. That is why I usually write up his vehicle recoveries (well, that and the fact that he would probably never get around to it! And I am blabby.).

His shop is a little 60'x100' steel thing, something just big enough to squeeze a few possessions into..

I really have to find some new folks to hang out with. Sunday we needed a valve stem to mount one of Sarge's M1009 spares. He had one somewhere but couldn't find it. For reasons unknown the discussion on who was going to go to the parts store to pick one up devolved into six guys in three M1009s doing the 28 mile round trip. Then we find out that the original valve stem was on the front seat of Sarge's M1009 the whole time, but Reloader was sitting on it!
    What a bunch of twits....

    Cheers

Pic 2- Sarge in his usual vile mood (yes, I edited his vehicle ID)
Pic 3- Reloader and Pawnshop in equally unpleasant moods

This is a great story. I went down there to help on the official plan, got the call from my unit asking for volunteers. I did not hesitate. Just got off work, went back in found my boss, and said I was heading down, dont know when i am coming back, let you know more later.

Spent a month down there, handing out food and water, doing truck escorts and so on, cause our regular equipment was broken down. Thats what happens when you take the best of the worst equipment (our good stuff was scattered between Iraq and Egypt at the time).

Got to live through my first hurricane (Rita). That was an experience. living in a tent in Hammond, LA. the higher ups did not see a reason to move to a more secure structure, until the mess tent collapsed.

For all I know I may have met sarge and didnt know him. I think I would have done the same thing had I been closer, not that I had much of a difference. My unit drove all the way from Pittsburgh,PA down to Hammond, in 3 days. Slept in truck stops. Irritated a lot of truck drivers, when we would roll in and the state police would come in and tell them they HAD to leave.

sarge, I congratulate you on your efforts.
