I'll see if I can convince some of the old timers down here, but I have not seen them post anything yet. There are about six or seven CCKW owners around here......

Hi;
Just joined steelsoldiers forum, and yes I do have a 1943 cckw 353 lwb with 105 Leroi air compressor. Actually have two compresors [one running and one for parts]. The truck runs good but needs brake work. The compressor has a few oil leaks but otherwise runs great and is in use for sandblasting and general cleaning of equipment. I know it's a piece of history, but I think it's great that a 60+ year old is still able to do a days work and hopefully with a little tlc maybe a few parades as well.
Also have a '43 IHC M-5H-6 W/Quickway crane [rough], '57 Utica Bend M45 with water purification body [camper conversion someday?], '68 Kaiser Jeep M54 cargo [sandblasted this summer with above mentioned compressor] and some M135/M211 parts trucks.

Lacoda56!

Welcome to Steel Soldiers! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_cool.gif" alt="Cool">

It is good to see another member in the Midwest, and one who can read instructions, (nice signature)!

It sounds like you can get a fleet rate on insurance! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_wink.gif" alt="Wink">

Thanks for the welcome, I don't think I've ever been accused of reading instructions before [there's probably a good reason for that]. A fleet rate on parts would be kinda handy too!

Hi Guys, My name is bob and I live in extreme northern Arizona,Fredonia, I've been collecting WW2 halftracks for 5 years now,I bought a SWB 6X6 for a friend of mine 10 years ago and regretted not getting it myself,so last month I finally got my own,4 actually,1 open cab LWB and 3 closed cab LWB,one of the closed cabs is actually a CCKWX,it was built 12/16/40 serial #4997, I plan on putting the open cab body on the winch chassis,both of them run great,the other two trucks I'll part out after I know what I need. The open cab body is rust free and straight the closed cab bodies are all pretty rough. But out of the 4 I'll be able to srounge two nice trucks. Always nice to find another site to talk with like minded(or feeble minded) people. Bob.

Bob,
I like that you included where you are in your message. However, to make it easy for everyone could you please include it in your signature found in the control panel so it shows up automatically and you don't need to retype it every time. Plus if you want to include your military vehicles in your signature, feel free to do so! Look at my overblown signature if you want some ideas.

My CCW is kind of an oddball, not many made. It looks exactly like a closed cab CCKW but there is no front wheel drive. Otherwise it is exactly the same truck.

Another thing, it is not rated at 2 1/2 tons, it is rated at 5 tons because it is not meant to be used off highway!! Kind of weird but that is a fact. My guess is that they were meant to be used only Stateside but I have never found that in print. Mine apparently spent its whole life in the Seattle area. It was bought by a mustering out GI, driven to MO and sat most of its life.
