Privately Owned f 104

I'm looking for someone that has experience lowering the landing gear on an f104.

We think we know what we're doing......he he he.... but just wanted to have a conversation with someone that might have done it before.

So whether you've lowered the gear from inside the cockpit and have a cool f104 story...... or have been forced to do it from the outside like we're doing on Tuesday the 23rd at 1400hrs, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Here's the story on our museum's latest purchase.

""""“It’s a really important aircraft because it allows us to do more. It allows us to do more with education, and it allows more people to get closer to their history.”"""

This page has a great description of all the systems with a cool f104 story.

A little Canadian f 104 history and what she's going to look like when it's done.

The doors and landing gear were tied up so the boys added temporary rigs to relieve the pressure, cut out the retainer ropes and released the rigging. The gear went down slowly then a 200lb gorilla bounced himself against the gear until it locked in.

The front gear had some pieces removed so it was kept in place on a temporary stand. From rig and hoist to folding up the crane and pulling out in less than an hour.

Great day to be an MV lover.

Waxing philosophical here....

As gently and slowly as y'all carefully moved that one-man-rocket out of dormancy, it's somewhiat difficult to visuallize her flashing through the sky as speeds faster than the soundwaves her nozzle was emitting!!! . . . Oh, to take her to the skies just one more time. <sigh>

WOW

The poem "High Flight"

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I wonder how he got it? Maybe like what coke did for a joke, when they said you can buy a harrier jet from the if you had like 1,000,000 coke rewards. They actually had to buy a harrier for a couple people, gave them away at approximately $400,000 each.

f104 parts

Nose cone spotted thread.....good eyes.

Here's a few more shots of the TM's written on the fuselage and an insignia that probably has a story we'll learn more about.

I split a gut when the museum director said we had to tow it through City streets to the strippers a few blocks away and it might be a midnight run. One of the ol' boys suggested that strippers wouldn't have an interest in the plane and we should just take the car.

Looking into having City support to help move it with a Police escort but either way it gets moved soon because the completion schedule is aggressive. Chris's Autobody is tentatively booked to strip paint and polish to a shine.

More pictures coming.

A little more MV kool-aid with a couple of links to f 104 pictures that may be used as samples for 'tatoo's' idea on patterns. ......Boss, Boss, de plane, de plane.
The final decision will be which era colours the aircraft will be presented in:
RCAF/CAF Polished aluminum, link to picture of exact aircraft:
http://www.google.ca/search?q=CF-104+10 ... 1024%3B672

or
CAF Camouflage, link to similar aircraft:
http://www.i-f-s.nl/exerc/TIGER/104785.jpg

But that decision will be made after the paint is stripped and the skin condition is determined.

Also linked is our directors thread so he can provide pictures of progress. This link also contains some of the most beautiful f104's to ever be tatoo'd.
