Tire safety.

Anyone who routinely uses their truck on the highway should consider using a semi tractor steer tire up front and if possible a tubeless arrangement. Front tires get hot at 50-60MPH. Military surplus tires are old in many cases but can look really good. Good to eliminate points of failure and opportunities for error.

Anybody know if using a flammable to seat a tire can cause pyrolysis?? I know it's a stupid thing to do in the first place, just wondering if there's enough heat there to start the process.

I know a guy who used to work at a tire shop. They'd spray some ether in to the tire and strike a match. The expanding (burning) ether would seat the tire. I never saw it done, just the story as he tells it.

Aerosol in the tire and light it. They do it in the arctic environments when seating a tire. Saw a video a while back with them doing it.

I had to seat a tire and just used a ratchet strap around it, took the core out of the stem and it seated when I put air to it.

Northern boys learn this method just to stay warm.

This video shows it working nicely however it's always better to watch from back here and see all the things that could go wrong. I never put my pinky where I wouldn't put my best guitar. Sticking a hand under a piece of equipment that is supported by hydraulics is silly. That's a pinch point. Standing under it, ridiculous....... and jumping on the controls while your boys are anywhere near it....Come on, really! No PPE, can't see fire suppression gear and I'm missing a bunch of other stuff to crab about too.
Nice work on the long stick design and explosion control though.

While we are on tire safety, REMEMBER that these 1400x20s on the 939a1/as DO NOT like to sit either flat or even just very low (10/15 lbs) for any length of time, if you have to run it on the rears NOT the FRONT, the side wall will tend to blow out, a real surprise doing road speed on the freeway, another reason to ALWAYS drive with TWO hands on the steering wheel, even with power steering, that first jerk of the steering wheel is when you either have control or not (if not will lead to a bad day).

I bring this up now because I was bringing a truck up from ATC and had a L front sidewall decide to let go, TWO hands and power steering got the truck over, off the shoulder, when I picked up the truck, all the tires were low, aired up but worried about the front. The BAD thing about buying these 939a1/a2s from GL is that you DO NOT KNOW, if the tires have set flat or low on air for how long before they were aired up.
