Hi guys. First of all let me say I know nothing about Unimog trucks sooo. I am doing some research about them for a friend in the contruction business. He would like to purchase a crew cab model with a diesel and a dump box.
Who is re-doing these and is a trustworthy seller? We are in Michigan so who services them here? He will pay good money for a truck done right.
Any info on what and where would be helpfull.
Thank you :D

I've had a few Unimogs and can say they're pretty well designed trucks although heavily into redundency in circuits and the like. Not exactly speed demons but will climb a wall once you get them to it.
Talk to Kurt at www.unimogswest.com True he's across the country from you but he's very knowledgable, works on them as well as selling them so he knows what their strong and weak points are and has been around them long enough to have the fixes for most if not all of the few quirks Unimogs have.

You talking an old (as in a NATO surplus) Unimog or a new unit. Occasionally US Army surplus SEEs show up but still in use by Sam. Great very capable trucks.

If looking for new, US Unimog dealers are thru Freightliner Truck dealers. Only a few dealers. Make sure you're sitting down before you ask for pricing. I don't think you can get anything from them for under $100k.

down here in GA (near gainesville) there's EuroTruck Importers. They mainly specialise in Pinazgauers but they also carry and import some Unimogs. (Both the surplus ones and the big diesel 1300s)
I think their web address is eurotruck-importers.com

Do like I did, contact a dealer of used military trucks in Germany.
You better know a little German or use Babelfish.

They are shipped out of Bremenhaven on a VW ship.
I paid $1500.00 for Truck
1000.00 for shipping

There are many places you can buy a Unimog believe it or not. Sean at Eurotruck is good, as is most of the other dealers I know of. Depends upon your budget and what you are looking for. You can buy a 404 in Europe for nearly nothing, however my experience has been. 1. What is left isn't that great anymore. Almost ever army has sold all the 404's they have and what is in private hands and is cheap has sat around for nearly 10-15 years. We have looked at nearly 500 404's in the past 7 years I have been importing. Everything from pristine Swiss 404's to nearly rusted German surplus/scrap. Shipping is no longer $1000 to the east coast, my last truck was $1859 plus inland. If you ship RORO you must use Marine Insurance. I always containerize my trucks and without exception always have damage or loss on a RORO.

Anyways, look around on the web and do some research. Try Ebay, but as always Caveat Emptor.

Good Luck.

I've had excellent experience since I purchased my Mog from Sean at Eurotruck Importers. Scott Ingham at Expedition Imports is also a good guy and great to deal with when I am on the West Coast. As a person who has logged three cross country trips on my Unimog, I cannot say enough good things about the 1300L. As far as off road capability...I beat the snot out of mine and it takes it every time. The creature comforts of this model are superb and beat any US military vehicle out there.
