Cannibalized while waiting for EUC!

Not seeing anything recent on this general subject, let me ask for advice from the "old guys" - I'm a newbie at this!
Ft. Meade - recently won a AN/MJQ-18 power plant (dual mep-003a mounted on M-103 trailer). Bid/won high, since a buddy had previewed the unit - it was clean, very low Hobbs, no parts missing, even had all four batteries, and they had enough charge to turn each gen set over! While waiting for EUC, and loading another lot with same buddy, inspected my unit a couple of days ago and discovered one fuel filter housing missing from each gen, and both fuel tank caps missing. Of the four missing parts, all had been there, but only one can be seen in the auction photos. GL on-site guy says, "Sorry!"
I'm disappointed to think that after spending nearly 6 1/2 yrs. as a P.O.W. in NVN, I'm now getting "handled" by selfish Americans, instead of my Vietnamese jailers!

Suggestions or comments??

If your pics show the unit with the parts on it, bring them to GLs attention.

If you press GL about it you may get replacement parts from them or credit for their value. You have to do it before you take possession of it.

I had the windshields, wipers and headlights removed from my M35A2 while waiting for my EUC to clear. GL gave me a $200 credit toward my next purchase as settlement. Used it as partial payment on another lot.

Will -

The only pic from before the loss is one of GL's auction pics, and that only shows one of the four items in place, which was eventually "liberated". I took pics of the locations of the missing items after they were gone - yeah, PP timing! My buddy, a retired Army Col., reported to the GL guy that they were not missing at the time of his preview, and that they now, are, but you can imagine what that is worth with GL! The onsite guy appeared to be sympathetic, and I have followed up with an email, detailing the situation, to his personal address, in which I suggested that it would be nice to see the missing parts restored (from a source of his choosing!), when I load out, after my EUC clears, but I am not optimistic about it!

Appreciate your input!

My thoughts, as well, so I'm working it - just thought you old pros might have a "quick fix"! This MV ground equipment stuff is new to me - if it doesn't have wings, I'm in learning mode!

Thanks for the welcome! You gents are way ahead of me, but the most gratifying missions I ever flew were close air support for you guys on the ground, so its nice to be getting down and dirty with a few of you, now!

Those sites are supposed to be secure! Its my opinion that a big deal needs to be made of the theft, and the Base Commander needs to be advised, and with considerable emphasis. If you leave the CO out of the loop, you are dismissing any meaningful redress. In fact, I'll bet the CO would be pleased to be advised of the situation, by you in person, Al Carp Sir.

Thanks for the Service

You raise an interesting point.

Has anyone who experience THEFT reported it to the Provost Marshal's Office? Base or Post Security? etc.

If GL cannot police themselves, maybe an "unbiased Agency" needs to be brought into the loop.

the last m1009 i pickup at ft meade has 14 parts missing.glow plug card ,starter.batterys.heater controls.all relays.even the back seat.it is a 34000 mile unit.and is nice.it is a pain to put it all back together.i paid more for this than i normally bid.i was hoping to get a better one.i am not getting what i paid for.i have had better results from warner-robbins. or ft bragg.these issues are making me doughtful of buying a lot more.the rougher cheaper vechicles seem to be better.they arent picked clean.they must think they are junk.i bought one from bragg in nearly as good of shape for half of this.

Happened before, it will happen again.

I've seen people specifically buy a 101 or 105 trailer for their first EUC, so future ones on big lots go fast.

GL has plenty downsides. Most involve a fork-lift.
i have learned a few things since i bought my first m101 trailer on my first euc.buying a trailer is a lot different than gensets or trucks.BUYER BEWARE.

I have found if you take a copy of your winning bid page with you to smaller lots they will escort you to your win and let you pull the really portable stuff off of it like tarps, tools and wheel chocks, which is what i have disappear on a regular basis. Depends on the location.

I am humbled - but not surprised - by the comments/suggestions offered by so many, so early in this thread! Some things never change - it has ALWAYS been about taking care of each other, hasn't it!

Thank you, brothers...

The boarding ladder had "walked away" from my M109 while waiting for the EUC. It was there during first inspection, but gone when I was previewing another auction. I did not really have proof that it was there, but I filed a claim anyway. In my claim I stated it was there before, gave an estimated value and a link to purchase another one. I also stated that I did not want to give up the winning lot completely, just a credit for the price of a boarding ladder.

I did this before my EUC was clear, not after the load out. About 15 days later, I was approved for the credit.

Good advice - I may very well do that! For now, I think I'll wait to see what response I get, if any, from the GL guy at Ft. Meade. From mf5129's response, it would appear that Ft. Meade GL has an established problem. This situation is UNSAT, and none of us should have to just meekly accept it! "BUYER BEWARE" is always good advice, but it is also reasonable to expect to get what was advertised, what we previewed, and what we paid high dollar for!

As rosco pointed out, these sites are supposed to be secure, and bid winners should not have to post a 24/7 guard on their equipment, while enduring a forced period of extended waiting for an EUC! Our local junkyards provide better security than THAT!
