So basically I have the heads off my truck and I want to scrape the deposits off the pistons before I put it back together. I'm wondering if there will be any issues with the lifters if I hand crank the engine to move the pistons.

Also I was wondering if the lifters would need to be reprimed since I drained the oil and have had the heads off for about a week and a half. I think they should still have enough oil in them since I haven’t removed them from the block but I don’t know.

Lifters should be fine. They will pump back up when oil pressure is restored. No problem hand-cranking. Just be sure to rotate in proper direction.

If you wind it up a bunch of times without the heads, it will run for an hour or more on stored energy

You know...Like a rubber band!!!!!!!!

As soon as you start or start to crank the engine and build oil pressure the lifters will prime on there own. they will never completely bleed out the oil you have the push rods out so there is nothing pushing on the plunger of the lifter you can crank the engine with the starter and not hurt the lifters [thumbzup]
