I wasn't trying to start a fight here. Like its been said before, you don't know me, and I don't know you. I just know what I've seen, and I do know that MV's are more dangerous than purpose built trucks. That's why our depts go through extra training with the military for them to drive them right. Now lets stop with the fighting and get back to the MV talk.
Please don't take my response as "fighting", what I'm putting out is VERY important info IMHO. We had a Humvee that we turned back into DRMO (or whoever we got it from) in '09, and some other dept got without updating anything. They didn't have it for even a year and a young newboy got killed using it. I appreciate having to use what you can get, but I want to make sure people know what they have and what it can and cannot do. BTW, make mine Sam Adams.

My guess is your deuce isnt stretched, probably was a bridge truck (guess). Those were used to carry pontoons, usually have singles in the rear. I work for our state's forestry department and we have gotten some of these through.

Our district's lowboy actually is pulled by this same tractor your building a tanker on!

I just have to point this out NO vehicle is safe unless you know it's limitations PERIOD! I can go out and roll a tank and get killed. Any vehicle can kill you if you don't treat it right or drive safely just cause it's not built by the "right" person doesn't mean anything. I'd rather drive something built at home then something off an assembly line any day. Cause I know every one of us that put our tales on the line as firefighters know what we are risking every time we drive out and if we don't get there safe we can't help.

Powerwagon: you need to stop posting all that breaker porn your making me jealous LOL

Just because someone's a firefighter doesn't mean they are qualified to build a firetruck. I don't think there's many pilots that coudl design an airplane. While they may have insight into which features are useful and which are not, it doesn't qualify them to engineer the vehicle.
And the risk we take is a calcutated risk. I don't care if you're full time paid or on call volunteer, you have to have a professional attitude with this job. This is not a place for amatuers.
And as for home built, I'll take a truck built by pros any day. Yeah I know some have to make do, but that should be the exception not the rule. I don't think I've seen any home brew trucks that have roll over protection in the cab like Pierce does. Just because someone is skilled as a welder, it doesn't mean they have the engineering skills needed to ensure the truck can function as intended.

Here we go again... Just cause someone is a firefighter doesn't mean they can put out water, Just cause someone can put out fire doesn't make them a firefighter. Just because you can rebuild a MV, doesn't mean you should. Once again, we don't know each other. I could be the lead manufacturer in Pierce, I could have 45 years of building vehicles professionally, or I could be a bum off the street. Don't be so quick to judge. everybody here has probably done some restoration/rebuilding of their MV, doesn't mean they were qualified, but doesn't mean they cant do a perfect job. I appreciate the insight, BUT WE WILL USE THIS TRUCK, WE WILL BE SAFE DRIVING THE TRUCK BECAUSE WE UNDERSTAND THE RISKS, WE ALL HAVE TRAINING, AND WE ALL WILL BE TESTED ON IT.

We have beat the horse, Killed the horse, Beat the dead horse, and buried the dead horse, Lets give it some respect and not Pi$$ on its grave.:deadhorse:

VFF19, I wasn't referring to your truck specifically, just the fact that he thinks a homebrew truck is better any day than a purpose built truck. Some people need to not just live in their little world. MV's in a hobby and for real work are two different animals. There's a lot of different horses being beat on here. Actually I'm just more poking it with a stick. :p
