We need an old airfield for this showdown. Post numbers across the country. See who’s got the fastest truck.

There is an app for this. I used it to gauge how much improvement I’m getting in my 0-10 mph by turning up my fuel in my A2, (it was soooo sluggish) differences between new air filters, mods etc. There are plenty of apps. Pick one that you like. Remember you get what you pay for. Free apps are fine if you just want basic stuff. I can’t remember if I paid anything for the one I use.

Mine has a countdown function for a drag race type timing and measures your 0-35; 0-60 (whatever you choose) and saves it. You add notes later. Like; New air filter, 85 degrees slight uphill by old man Jenkins house. Also has a speedometer.

If you have no baseline to compare it to, other than “feels faster” how will you know if what you are doing is working?

Overhauled a jackshaft with new joints and shaft seal. I'll paint it tan but the unpainted shaft looked new (thanks to walnut shells).

Swapped on a 915 series battery box. The double box setup was a little too high to get out of sometimes. Had an 8d battery go bad. 3 days past its 1yr free replacement timeline. And no prorating. Just pitiful. I went to the Cummins dealer and bought a replacement 8d for 165 and a 48mo free replacement.

Yeah I put some 4x4s on each side of the batteries as I put mine sideways. This is also nice so you can actually store your cribbing in case you need it for a flat. I should have raised the box up another inch or two to match it with the fuel tank steps by the steel piece i made for the rear cab cross member would not allow it and the box actually sits half an inch off the frame rather than flush to the frame.

I had that problem with an Interstate Battery. No more of those one year for me. Thanks for the tip on the batteries from Cummins. I have had them do some work on the truck that exceeded my abilities. You pay for it, but they know their product and did a very good job.

Every time I turn off the truck, I hear air venting out of the intake too. Is this because of bad brake diaphragms?

Without the brake pedal depressed and the emergency brake off it will more than likely be a treadle valve. Another way to test this is to just simply open your rear service gladhand and see how many lbs/min your air pressure drops versus the valve being closed or if the air vent goes away.

If the air is venting with the brake pedal depressed it can be the Q2 valve in front of the front axle or it can be a bad service diaphragm. The Q2 valve is easy to diagnose. Remove the center line that is the "to the intake vent port" and remove it off the Q2 valve. Press your brake pedal with the line off and see if the noise goes from the stack to a large burst of air coming from the front of the truck. If yes then that's your problem. If not then start tracking down the diaphragms.

Bad treadle valve for both of the above posters is the first place I'd look. Mine does it as well. When your truck is off, press slightly on the brake pedal and see if it stops. There is an adjustment possible and remedied most of my problem. Simp said he'd send me one but stays so busy that it hasn't arrived yet. I've got a new one that I lent a vendor to sell but he's still got it, I'll pick it back up from him at the GA Get together in October. Probably need to give him $20 for hauling it around over the past few years to be fair.

Wish I had better pictures of the actual truck but this is the best I have so far. Need to hunt down other parents. After Graduation was done ( 8th grade ) took these kids to the after party (non school event) in the 923. Only about a 15 minute ride but I think i'm now the coolest dad at that school. Wait till the first day of High School!!
