Dash Indicator Light Install

Today I installed a Brand New Dash Indicator Light set to the ole M923. I haven't touched this truck for awhile and decided to finally get it installed.

It will be nice that you can read the words above the indicators. Am trying to figure out how I can highlight the words on the indicator and dash of the desert painted truck. The paint is rough enough that I can't paint and wipe them off. Have been working on the outside of the truck doing some wet sanding to smooth up the finish. This will help with some touch up that I need to do.

Kind of tacky but might work, but a guy could take a mechanical pencil or a fine tip sharpie to the old letter (provided it's desert tan).I know the older indicator panels have recessed letters. However, the newer ones have painted on lettering (not recessed into the metal).

Mine has recessed letters, so was considering the sharpie idea. Too busy at work and no time to play. Have you done any oiling to your air system on the M923? It is an old trick on the M54 to add a touch of oil to the airline to lube the airpack. Was wondering about a touch of machine oil to lube the six wheel drive portion. When I first got it, was not getting air at the switch, now that seems to be working.

I just did exactly that last week. I pulled my dash light assembly and used the super fine sharpie (the one with the metal tube tip) and it worked great. I was super careful and the lettering looks really good. Went to do the same thing on the gauge panel and stopped after two gauges. It looks bad. Two things: having the panel right in front of your nose and good control free handing was key; second, my light assembly is not CARC and the gauge panel is. The CARC is much more difficult to letter. I'm going to pull the panel and try it in a more "controlled environment". I would post pics but don't want to pollute this awesome thread.

When you say "painted on", are they really that or are they decals? I tried my lettering machine - the labels turned out great - but there's no way they would stick to CARC.

Hey Al, the letters look like they may have been a decal of some sort. Looks like they are baked on?. The letters are a little raised and glossy in appearance. Suppose it could have been stamped on my a machine of some sort
