The Auction Gods give and the Auction Gods take away.

I was just contacted by GSA and told that the auction description was substantially misleading and incorrect. A large amount of the 561 I bid on had been salvaged prior to the auction. Rather than have an issue with disputing the sale they offered to simply cancel it and refund my full payment. Having not actually seen the vehicle and limited to 1 poorly taken photo I decided that was the best recourse. Maybe some will come up a little closer and I can actually look at them and decide how much I want to spend on it.

Well, sorry that happened. But in truth, I'd a lot rather go help you recover one a bit closer than Idaho! ;)

Cheers

Well my discretionary spending amount just went up as I can add about $1500 in recovery expenses to what I'd spend on one. Better that it happened now than after I drove 1800 miles to get it.

MK, if you want some more of these, there are 3 down the road from me, fresh from Ft Hood. By fresh I mean they came from there in the 80's and have sat inoperable in the weather ever since.

Not trying to collect an actual herd but wanted one. Are parts available from the ones near you? I know this latest one is missing at least 1 wheel and tire.

I didn't actually win any of them,I previewed the one in Morganton(it's 5 minutes away),I remembered seeing the one in Crossnore some years back,no parts vehicles around here that I know of.

Thanks. The parts vehicles comment was to NDTs post. Do you remember if the one I got is missing more than just the wheel and tire (ie is the hub there?)

Well it turns out I did buy two after all. Both had the same photo and word from another thread is that the photo in both of the auctions isn't the photo of either of the ones I bought. If that's true then I wound up with the best and the worst of the lot. They yellow one at Crossnore was pretty well trashed but should provide some extra parts at least and, if I have to scrap the rest of it I got it at the right price.

The fun part begins Monday when 2 trucks with 2 trailers and a total of 4 drivers head east from my AO for a mad dash recovery. Double the fun and double the chances of Murphy showing up. East is West of here, isn't it?

Good luck. So you won't be needing the extra tire for now? OKC is a little out of the way.

If it's any help Mark I have 6 GAMA GOAT wheels and tires you can have...tires are mostly junk but they are free. Distance is a killer though.

Thanks Larry. If what has been talked about is true then all 12 wheels/tires should be there. The one I thought I bought that was missing a wheel apparently isn't one of the 2 that I actually got.

We'll be passing a little north of you but I'll wave as we cross the AL/GA line.

Got the one that closed late too?
Apparently. I dont know why it would have closed late though. I put the bid in around 4pm Central time then headed to town to meet up with the wife. I was shocked when I got home and had the other one as it sounded like someone had been sniping it.

Nah. You got it all backwards.

Does anyone know the width, hub to hub, on a M561? I know the width is listed at 84" (7') but believe that's the widest and appears to be measured at the fenders. Just curious as I'm leaving in the morning for the recovery and my trailer is 6' 11.5" at the fender wells. Worst case scenario is I use ramps higher than the fenders and leave the middle wheels on that kind of like an inch worm but would feel a little more comfortable knowing I'm wide enough to clear.
