I have 24V series 12 WARN winches and am tempted to mount one on my civvy dodge 3500. The (cummins diesel) truck has 2 batteries so it seems that this should be a relatively trivial exercise. My worries are that I'd send 24v through the rest of the electrical system and fry things. I don't have enough knowledge or experience to experiment with my truck, but it sure seems like I could wire up a 24v circuit just to the winch, leaving everything else alone. Ideas?

Thanks

Sorry, the batteries have to be connected in series to make 24 volts, and parallel for 12 volts. They can't be connected both ways at the same time.

Well, they can but it would have to be setup like in a cucv. I wonder if you could find a dc-dc converter to step up the voltage. Then again, to run a winch, you will not find one big enough.

Your best bet is to sell the winch and buy a 12v one.

You guys are confirming what I already suspected. I guess I could connect series and parallel and only have one ckt complete at a time, but that seems excessively complex and a lot of trouble to go to, with a high potential to screw something up.

Thanks for the info.
