Axle ratio determination?

I've crawled around and searched but can't find any tag with ratio on either diff . I found casting numbers and some stamped numbers on housing . Besides removing diff cover and counting teeth and math is any other way to tell ?

I would just count teeth. good time to change your gear oil as well.

A series of numbers on ring gear end in : 41-15 which is: 2.73.
41-16 is: 2.56
40-13 is: 3.08

Good video . I knew there was a way like that to do it but did not rememeber the procedure. All fluids in my differentials are fresh already .

Unless you have an A2 like an M1097A2 or M1123, your a 2:56
M1123, M1097A2 have 2:73

Figures I would have 2.56. I've found nos 2.73 diffs but not 2.56. I have 1990 m998

Plenty of junk hmmwvs on the market to get the right diffs from.

Why would you want 2:73?
maybe better off the line, but lower top end, 2:56 is the best
for lighter trucks, you go with the higher ratio for heavier trucks but lose
top end speeds
