Herculeas Engine Question

Loose Deuce

I have a question about the Herculeas power plant in the M35A2. I have a 1969 Deuce with the Herc. engine being replaced on 4-94. Its a 465-1D with a HP rating of 134. After getting use to driving it, I been noticeing that the power is not very impressive, takes a long run out through the gears to get going. May just be me, not having anything else to compare with, just seems it could be stronger.<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_dead.gif" alt="Dead">

Is there anything I can do to boost the horse power up or wake up some of the horses I have?

I think a large part of the problem is the spread of the gear ratios in the tranny. It'd be nice to have a few more gears.
There's a lot you can do to boost the performance of these motors. #1 give it more fuel, but when you add fuel you also increase exhaust temperatures so a pyrometer needs to be added to monitor temps.
Another mod is bypassing the fuel density compensator. Most people don't run anything but #2 diesel in thse things so there's no need for the density compensator.
There's a good article on how to bypass the compensator in one of the issues of Military Vehicles Magazine. Maybe we can copy that and put it on the site here.

make sure you got 2 hole injectors add a pyro and crank up the pump to 1150 then add a 1/4 orfice of propane at 5.5 psi and u will not be able to shift gears fast enough

Do you use a preheater (vaporizer) on your propane setup?

Been thinking of that mod for mine, figured I could make one with the coiled tube in tube concept, using engine coolant.
