The XM708 has the same wheelbase as the M37... About 200 of them got built... Chasis is the XM53B1 which is the same as the M37's chasis except that it has extra springs in the rear and some additional frame reinforcement along with boosted brakes. The specification PDF is interesting reading, and goes into some detail on just what constitutes an XM708 and they didn't formally cancel the spec until 1980...

The longer cab/chasis that was supplied for such things as the R2 Crash truck and for mounting the CMU series of contract maintenence bodies is the M56 or M56B1 which has a similar, beefed up suspension and frame to the M53 chais but is the same length as the M43 ambulance

Photos of a restored XM708 (shots S and T) are located on my misc. page at:

Shots of the XM708 that I just purchased (but have yet to pick up) are located at:

Dave P,

As far as I know the 126" wheelbase was the M43 Ambulance which you don't have. Or the M271 (V-41) which is the telephone installation light maintance and cable splicing truck
