M939 battery relocation kit question

My m931a1 came from a reset with the battery relocation kit installed. My question is when you use the steps to get in the truck on said box it has a bounce to the battery box. Is this normal? I can't find and loose nuts or bolts.

Thanks

Most likely yes. It uses longer frame mounts, so longer leverage in the original bolt locations with the same size frame mount material. They are just longer. I put a side tool box from the passenger side step on a 939 on a Ford E350 and because the mounting space is shorter, the box mount now "flexes" or "bounces". I don't think anything at all about it.

I installed one of these on my 5 ton. No bounce-its rigid. The kit comes with a bolt on gusset-strap (look close and you can see it on front of box). Make sure you have these installed.

That's the parts book. The installation instructions for the modification kit are posted here on my modification kit thread.

For your bouncy box, are the reinforcing straps missing? See the installation instructions and parts book. Also look for cracks in the main supports. With four batteries and my big butt on the steps, that's a lot of weight so I can see how years of use *might* do some damage. But for now, it's sold as a rock.

Hoefler, what mounting brackets did you use for this box? I have the box and when I tried to put it on I was about 2 inches to high and hitting the cab. thanks rc

See my link in post 10 - it shows pictures of the battery box mounts and tool box mounts side-by-side.

Moving batteries to outside box makes them easier to service. Opens up storage under seat in cab, and keeps the cab safe from battery gasses.
