If you go to the photo gallery on this site, click on Dr. Fosters random pictures. The 3rd photo. It is mislabled, it is not WW1, but it is the Korean war, and up to this point, we were loosing it. The photo shows the Marines landing behind the North Korean lines in the city of Inchon. The Marines are useing home made ladders to get over the sea wall from the higgins boat. The Inchon landings turned the tide for the Korean war. If you look at the photo, the Marine who is at the top, going over the sea wall is a young Lieutenant. A couple of hours later, after this photo was taken, he will throw himself on to a gernade, to save the Marines around him. He will be posthumous awarded the Medal of Honor.

Thanks for naming him. I have the information in my barn, it would have taken me a couple of hours to find it. In the Marine Commemorative series that was put out a couple of years ago about the Korean war, they point out that the guy who took the photo was in the same boat as Lt. Lopez. The way they have identified that it is him at the top, is he is leading the way and he is carrieing a set of binoculars on his war belt (Binocular, case, M63A1). The case is the item on the belt almost in the middle.

I salute all who made sacrifices for their country and their fellow soldiers in the field.
As one who serves; I can't say enough about the support for ground troops who are in harm's way.
Regardless of one's opinion of government or foreign policy; the those who gave so much, if not all, deserve our lasting gratitude and respect.
