Okay, can't tell the difference in these Jeeps, when naked

A buddy of mine has two Jeeps, both were purchased for $300 together. They look like crap, and their bodies have been much abuse and modifications over the years. Neither run. We were thinking they were CJ-2As, as that is what the bodies look like. However, we found bits of MB body parts and M38 accessories as well. Seems to be a mishmosh of parts, definitely amalgamachines.

The front frame cross-member on one looks like that on an MB, but once again, not sure. The frames look relatively straight and unmodified, so if there was a way to tell what these were by looking at them naked, aka sans body sheet metal, is there a way to do this? How different were the MB, GPW, CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ3B, M38, and M38A1 frames? He has no titles for these pieces of history.

Any help is appreciated.

RE: Okay, can

Even though I am into jeeps I don't know anything about the pre-80 ones. This might be a good one to send some good pics off to JP Magazine about. Here are some interesting links I have that show some pics of frames. Get out your magnifying glasses:)
