Ok, I could also use some help with picking out my paint. I'm 20 and own an M-135 and an M-211 deuce and a half. What I can't figure out is the correct color and a good kind of paint. My m135 is 1951 with data plate number 082, my m211 is 1954 with plate number 32xxx. What is the correct color, i've heard that 24087 is the correct color? Sounds like the guys here don't like it because it is too brownish. So what color should I use on them and what kind of paint is best. Aervoe, gillespie, local auto parts store? Acrylic Enamel, Urathane Enamel, Ect.? I have about 6 months to get my truck painted and going for PROM, yes that's right, my GF wants to go to prom in a deuce and a half and I don't want to dissappoint her. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks guys.

I believe 24087 is correct for that era of truck. It's supposed to have some brown in it because of all the different theaters it went to in that time period. Ta heck with what the guys think, do your own thing. Plus if doing your own thing is to take a properly repainted Deuce to the prom then do so kiddo! The added advantage is the back has LOTS of room (but you NEVER heard that from me)!

24087 is just what you need. Dress it up with white stars on the hood, doors, and bumpers. Then stencil the truck number on the hood and you are good to go. Go HERE for your paint needs. Gillispie is the best IMO. Other guys here will back me on that. I used the Aervoe desert sand and it was OK, but it has faded a good bit over the years. Good luck and have fun at prom. I wish I had my deuce in High-school!<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_pimp.gif" alt="Pimp">

Thanks for the help guys. I know that 24087 is the correct color from what i've heard, but RAPCO also lists 23070 as Late WWII Semi-gloss OD for vehicles from late WWII to early and mid 1950's? When I look at my seats and other parts, they do not look that brown to me but more green. Does anybody know for sure if any of the trucks came with this green OD, or did they come from the factory with the browner OD? The 24087 says it's from the mid 1950s or early vietnam. Too bad there is such a charge on shipping paint, has anybody had any success with having a generic brand made at the local auto supply store?? If I pull this off and get my truck all restored in time, i'll have to post some pics for you guys to see. Thanks again.

I had some 34094 green mixed up in a spray can in PPG brand urethane at the local auto paint store. Pretty good stuff if I could afford it. $181.00/gallon.

Prior to painting my 1952 M135, I did a lot of research. I checked the color of the paint under the fording cap on the dash and found it to be an exact match to the late WWII/Early M Gillespie that I purchased from Army Jeep Parts. This company is only a little over an hour from my place, so I sure saved on haz-mat shipping. This color is also a match to the original paint on my 1952 M37. It had been painted 24087, but this was peeling off revealing the lighter color. A lot depends on what era you want to portray. I did my M135 as a 1952, not Vietnam (24087).

Thanks for the paint help guys. The way it looks I will probably be painting my 1954 m211 Late WWII semi gloss from 2nd armor productions(same as RAPCO paint). AJP WWII looks exactly identical to Rapco's WWII semi gloss(only a hair lighter), so I think I will go with that since it's a lot cheaper for me than AJP. From what everyone tells me it is the right color and it doesn't look too bad either. Too bad the forrest service destroyed the hood markings, I still have no idea if it's a USMC or US Army truck. The paint still looks darker than the WWII, but I don't think it's marine corps forest green, probably the difference between the old lead base and todays acrylic. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't all Gillespie and military restoration paint non-acrylic? What does that really mean? Just hope I can get the truck repainted and the tranny fixed in 4 1/2 months. I'm not worried about her being happy. She is quite a girl, this was her idea anyhow and she has about 4 other couples who want to ride in it too. I just hope I can pull it off in time, i'm still a novice at all this. Please keep the help and advice coming, I need all I can get. Thanks again.
