Discovered torn axle boot on passenger side.
I have all the tools needed for this except the huge spindle sockets.

Where can I buy these? Local parts places no luck.
Would truck parts stores have them?

Is changing it as bad as it looks?

If you are just replacing the boot use the zipper boots and you won't need any big tools or even a jack!
I've read the solid ones are much better and last longer.
But geeze it looks like it's gonna be a mother to do that.
Zipper ones do ok?

Mine has solid ones now. Only passanger side torn. I don't off road so don't know how it happened.

Zipper boots hold up ok and are far easier to replace. There was someone who had NOS zipper boots for sale in the classifieds. The NOS ones hold up way better than the cheap China made ones.

I wouldn't get New Old Stock (NOS). I replaced my boots 5 or 6 years ago with a New Stock zipper boot with a part date within 18 months of my install. They are still performing great today. No cracks and still pliable. If you install them per the TM (overnight), the zipper is not an issue. Just make sure it's a genuine military part/supplier.

Tons of cheap commercial made boots out there but having a hard time finding military issue.

Most won't state if it's USA made or not and when I've emailed to ask they don't answer.

Since you are doing a 5-ton you might want to consider getting some sort of lift to a} remove the wheel/tire and b) to remove the drum. The rest is manageable by hand.

We did JW4x4s right and left at different times in the last year and it was a game changer having a fork lift.

Remember to bleed the brakes when you are done.

(Yes, I'm kidding.)

If I can find military issue zipper boots I will do that.

If I have to go the solid boot route, luckily I have a John Deere tractor and a forklift implement.
Also a engine hoist if it needs a finer touch.

Have a long recovery next week and the boot repair may have to wait until after that.
