I found this old bugger wedged in about a year ago. Called the guy, he'll sell. I could really use it...but it's tought to justify the lump at one time. It is a deal though...but...eh, you all know.

Yup, it's an M62, just took another look. Got the 62 crane shipper boom.
What's '62 crane shipper boom?' Is that good or bad?

Yes, its got the R6602 in it and a muffler the size of a 30 gallon barrel! :) It's got some rust in it, of course...but is in decent overall condition. The area on either side of the big rear winch is littered with old pulley blocks and other cool recovery hardware.

The guy is looking at a little over three grand. Later this year I'll try and beat him down some with a cash offer. Said that he used it a couple years ago to move some oil tanks for a buddy. "you put batteries in it and it'll run...always has."

Tom, no problem with that boom. The M62 shipper boom was different than the later M543 and M816 shipper booms in that it has a single lift cylinder and the winch is at the rear of the boom. The others have the winch slung from below the boom. Operationally, not much difference but it helps in identifying the equipment.

I have to comment on the R6602. Its not fast and its a gas hawg but its a torque monster beyond belief. It has a weird sound all its own and even though its a six, it's throaty sound lets you know its got the goods. Some of you may know Everette Doyle in TN. He has an M328 bridge truck with the R6602. Most of the bridge trucks had 10.26 gearing. He took this 32,000# beast to the county fair and entered the truck pulls. No class for it so they let him "Try" the sled at 4x4 weight. Once that proved no problem they tried it at the big super stock weight. Needless to say they were dissapointed to find that they couldn't stop the truck. Compound low, let out the clutch and take it to 1200 rpm and thats all folks!

I probably wouldn't change that. It doesn't need to haul stuff, just work...lift, maybe rescue the CAT Deuce if I do something stupid in the woods. I also really dig gas engine as they START in the WINTER! Plug in an engine...geeze. That's my diesel gripe...that and if diesels could just go *SNIFFFFFFFFFFFF* once in a while and suck back in all the oil they leak. Heh,heh.

As long as I've been around diesels, I've heard them referred to as roadoilers!
I concur!
