whats this port in the water pump used for on a 6.2?

In some applications, Humvees included, that plug would have a hose nipple installed and that is where the return hose from the heater core would be attached. The CUCV and I think Chevy trucks as well, return heater core water into the radiator.

thanks...i take it then that this port is on the "return" side of the cooling system.this is good ,as there is plenty of discussion on various sites as to cooling mods for 6.2 and 6.5 diesels.just thinking...
