Many xfer cases are capable of being twin stick'd. I suggest a through underbody inspection so you can better describe what you have so folks are able to actually help you.

It's likely the threaded internal parts that are sized, it's like a nut that runs up & down on a length of threads. I've only ever gotten one to come back around but the vice grips left notable marks I wasn't happy about.

That would be EDPM rubber rope. It comes in roll/spool lengths, a quick Google will give you lots of choices.
