What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

1: M870 lowboy is of course too heavy for what you want 2: M269 is a decent vintage trailer but no ramps .. 3: With ramps, the M172 (15T) and A1 version (15T/25T) are the typical match for a M52/M818 5T tractor 4: There's a ramp trailer similar to M172 but is lighter WW2/korea-era with single...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Fair warning.... I did 73 with two M818s on my stepdeck .. The 818 up front got most all of its new-but-flaky CARC blown off within the first 20 minutes of the haul

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

If it has a plugged (or open) hole on the lower firewall just above the accelerator pedal, you can bet it was ;) It already has the gasser electric horn slots in the grille and the gasser tarapulin box on the left side of the bed above the fuel tank

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The newest M809-series I have now is 1972 and it has the tubular grille as do my older ones.. As you have learned, a 1976-build has the flat-bar design .. Not sure when the change happened but this may narrow it down

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The M809-series has the same tranny as an overdrive-equipped M39-series truck (the M51 is within the M39-series). Only difference is some pto's are dual-outlet, others single

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I just love how you put so much detail into your posts for everyone.. You should be commended by all here ! .. The town guys had smoked that parking brake pretty good ! .. But in their defense, we saw (or smelled) that source of smoke from time to time in the army as well ... PS: Here's a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

You guessed it, the town of new marlboro installed it for ether .. It was always a sore spot when i owned the truck, among a couple other tidbits that happened to it previously .. Glad you took the time to replace it with an expandable plug, and that type of plug sure was a good idea !

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

done that many times ... but sometimes it is the big ugly military truck holding them up , thus I have never had any qualms whatsoever about using the breakdown, errr i mean "slowpoke lane" to let others by when it's me.. Even back whenever we were in convoy long ago we would give the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

i worked with a fella who had been on that cruise line from 1971-73 .. One day during lunch i asked about his port-to-port adventures , expecting elaborate embellished stories about the women of singapore, danang, saigon, greece, san fran etc .. He looked disappointed and said they hardly went...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yep the pockets are there for it as well as on a M49C/M50C , to disguise them as lesser targets to air and ground OPFOR .... In all my 30-some years combined service as a 64C10/20, next the subsequent 88M20/30, and then the years spent with the State Guard filling in for the State's deployed...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It's a regular 2-1/2T M35 cargo truck cover and bows.. Is a very tight fit length-wise and you have to stretch it a bit and there's a bit of inward lean on the rear bow (if in the rearmost pocket) unless you have a Soldier B or C to help pull the cover really tight as you work it back, but it...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

was surprisingly warm in the sun today, a perfect day for last-minute winter prep of the M62 .. Has it's ski mask on, fuel topped off, tire chains in a pile on pass side floor, winter mittens, jacket, and hat on the stack ;) .. PS: for those who noticed, yes those are M809-series fender...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I get those same surprises every week in the shop when I check the 5gal pail that purposely has 4 inches of WMO in it this time of year

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

nice !! IHC was the dominant manufacturer from '51 to end of '63 .. Gassers from Mack and Diamond-T are scarce but they are out there.. My IHC M51 is a '63, IHC wrecker is a '53, and in my last BN served, there was about eight IHC gasser M52's and M54's with tags ranging from 1954 to 1963...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

sorry to hear. I have sitting here a couple "victims" of the military's 1980's multifuel swap crimes .. One is my 34000#+ wrecker that can't maintain 5th gear (direct) in hi-range unless it has gone over a cliff  .. I am glad my M51 (gasser) made it out of the system before 1981 , is a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

yes , diesel is safe for that as well as flushing the xfer case .. You can do the transmission without running it down the road, which I would be concerned with although i reluctantly have done it .. Instead, you can put xfer case in neutral and run the tranny through each gear a number of...
