Ummm... The ball joint should be tapered - Right?
Maybe just a tap on the end away from the "nut" end with a two or three pound hammer?
It should want to tighten because of the taper.
Unless maybe you have the wrong size joint?

It might be worth looking under the truck - where the wires would attach to the "overdrive switch" - and see where they go. Heck, it might be that he just installed the switch and called it that (never changing anything).

I would have the TMs (Technical Manuals) that you downloaded handy when your guy arrives. OR, you might point him directly to the books so he can download them himself. That might help him with diagnosing the problem...

Maybe quarter inch plate...

I am of the opinion that 4 D-Rings in the four corners of the bed would be a good plan. Tie-downs that went through the bed attaching your vehicle to the frame would be even better.
.
Guess it was good that you had a dozier to tie off to.
Went back and looked at the picture again - and there "ain't no trees" for you to tie off to!
Yeah, and it does look like it just sank down in the bog... Wow!

Wow!
You didn't think that maybe you should stop churning before you buried it below the axles?
That winch is going to work hard to pull that loaded "Tipper" out of the mud...
