I just inherited a bundle of AN/VRC goodies!

I don't know anything about the AM-2060 adapter or how it changes the voltage. Maybe a transformer of some sort? There is a large solid block that houses something fairly heavy in it. All I've found from my limited collection of radio TMs that mentions this setup is this: Looks like it...

I just inherited a bundle of AN/VRC goodies!

I'm also planning to use the -77 in my vehicle in lieu of an RT-524 so I guess I won't need a battery pack as power will come from the truck.

I just inherited a bundle of AN/VRC goodies!

Perhaps! The collector i got this from mentioned that the internals are made in modules so a module with a faulty component can be replaced with another module. He also mentioned there are people who make battery packs composed of D-cell batteries. I'll have to look into that deal.

I just inherited a bundle of AN/VRC goodies!

I'm gonna have to make a choice here. Either sell the hmmwv parts or tell the wife that since we don't want them to go to waste, we need to get a hmmwv to install the parts on...

I just inherited a bundle of AN/VRC goodies!

I was able to stow the AM-1780 amps and C-2296 crew boxes in the old packaging i still had from Recodefense and it reminded me of how thorough and how detailed Gary was in his craft - to the point that his attention to detail carried over into the packaging. All of the boxes just fit exact and...

I just inherited a bundle of AN/VRC goodies!

A fellow collector has been cleaning up his shop and graciously loaded me up with all sorts of AN/VRC gear. It seems the highlight of the bundle is the AN/VRC-53 or -64? Radio set using the AM-2060/GRC adapter to plug the PRC-77 into the MT-1029 mount. There's still lots of parts to...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Looks like a fun project. Is there more cable length to be had by loosening the adjustment knob on the brake handle?

    My m925a1 build "Brutus"

Yeah, Wes makes it look easy by himself but in the case of a roadside tire change I've been thinking of carrying a pop out sign similar to the 'wet floor' signs you see but offering cash for some extra muscle to entice someone to stop and help

    Just got my first MV!

    Looking good! 👍

    Just got my first MV!

Another thing about these trucks: be mindful of the order in which you turn off the truck when it's running. Turn off the engine switch first and then after the engine has stopped rotating shut off the battery switch. If you shut off the battery switch first with the engine running it can...

    Just got my first MV!

OK, the -20 TM has a bit more info. there are two different brakes; a drag brake to resist free-wheeling and an automatic brake to maintain winch position when the PTO is disengaged.

    Just got my first MV!

I would suggest reading up on the winch functionality in TM-9-2320-260-10 found in the TM download section - it's good reading! And check with Eastern Surplus or TNJ Murray for the missing data plates.

    Just got my first MV!

To keep the drum from freely spinning the drum lock knob on the driver side has to engaged. It has a pin that protrudes into one of many slots in the drum side flange. The brake holds the load when the clutch is depressed and cuts out the PTO power.

    Just got my first MV!

The front of the housing opposite where the pto shaft connects is this data plate. It does have a brake.

    Just got my first MV!

The brake is adjustable and may need adjusting. I've never adjusted one before but I've seen the data plate for it on the front of my winch...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Today I added 2 jerry can holders next to my hard-mounted ammo can. I arranged them so that they don't interfere with the tie-downs if I need to use them.

    Fuel consumption and top speed

Economy is not a concern for me but fuel prices kinda are since it limits my fun. Funny that so many people are concerned about mileage that it's typically their second question when asking about my truck after they ask what it is or why I have it.

    New guy advise

I run a turbo'd M813 with a winch and that would be my biased choice! They can be fairly snappy with the turbo and a manual tranny is just more fun.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Interesting fix! Will your engine suck in any rubber shavings?

    Fuel consumption and top speed

Like 98G is saying, the error is a percentage so the higher your speed, the higher the error. I also converted from 11.00s to 16.00s on my M813 so i made this quick crossover reference as a short term fix till I get the speedo gear updated. Check out this thread for info on updating the...
