All the 80s trucks I have seen were air shift. It sounds like it is an older model sprag shift that is not working.

stop lever From experience with old tractors that set alot, it is better to push it in. If it gums up just setting around the tractor will run when you need it to. If you leave it pulled out and it gums up and sticks, the motor will obviously not work when you need it to.

It seems most all think it is dangerous. I regularly haul my antique pulling tractors which are 12K and have no problems hauling or stopping. My equipment is in good shape with good trailer brakes. I may purchase a deuce in GA and would like to haul it to TN but all the shipping quotes are to high.

That is correct. The manual says to make small adjustments. It suggests one flat, then redo your test .

I like your instrumentation. Does your deuce make black smoke under a load? My next step is going to be adjusting the droop screw. When you are making 11psi boost , is that under an extreme load? Have you ever loaded it at 1600 rpm and checked the boost?
