    Trans Shift Points

Did that 4L80 bolt right up or did you need to make some things work?

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

Thanks for the info Tstone, The more I thought about it, I was leaning toward the card burning up those resistors. That voltage was way down and the resistors were way hot. If I run a push button, I was thinking about doing that to prevent the card from malfunctioning again and causing more...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

OK, I did the GP bypass, works great! The glow plugs are working fine, I started it this morning and the GP light went off, and she started immediately. it was about 50 degrees. The voltage meter shows in the green when I drove it out Monday, the problem is now the tranny! I replaced the...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

I'm wondering why you are going back to that? I love the truck, it is tons of fun, and when I get time to fiddle with it, I do, I like to tinker. I have four kids and a single income so it is tough to find extra cash to dump into it.

Excellent advice Warthog! Thanks a million! That little thread there seems like an easy to follow and easy to do conversion. I'll get started on that soon. Looks like Rockauto.com has the plugs reasonable, and it also appears that they have the glow plug relay for the J coded trucks for 22...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

Well, I went and cut the resistors out, connected the batteries and she started up on the third short try. I put fuel in it, and drove it home. The card under the dash was all there, even in a cover. I did have a low transmission fluid moment where she started to give way, but a short walk to...

OK, thanks for that bit of info. I'm headed out now and will update upon my return!

haha! I guess I asked for that.

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

@ warthog, Yes, you are correct! When I raised the hood, all of the smoke was coming from the resistors, it was heavy and they were red hot, then they lit up. After I got them out, and took the battery posts off, I noted a SMALL amount from the back of gen 1, no smoke from any wires, that I...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

Yep, I'm going to start with the whole setup involving the GP's, I'm guessing they got fried too. I was under the impression that the only thing that was true 24v on these things was the starter? I do know the wires to the GP's are all fine, no heat issues with them (not that I won't check...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

Ok, I'm just about to head out and go take the resistors off the truck, and see if it will run long enough to get it to Fort PJ. I have checked into the card and may do that, but I want to make sure everything is working fine before I do. Any suggestions for getting it home? I'll be removing...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

I had the alt's tested at a motor shop, and they were both "perfect" according to the shop guy, I don't think they were the issue here. I have noticed from time to time the "wait" light will come on or flicker when the truck is running, that might be some of the problem here, although I didn't...

    MY M1008 caught on FIRE!

I did get the loose terminals on the alternator, they seemed to be working just fine. But I have a feeling something is wrong with at least one now because that meter in the truck dropped like a rock when this all went down.

    I absolutely meant the resistors.
