On my M35A3 they were located on the firewall on the drivers side of the truck. I believe, but am not certain, that on the A2 they are located differently. I had a hard time finding a replacement, but finally found brand new ones from a commercial truck supplier and were a direct replacement.
To me, that looks exactly like motor oil on your finger, but motor oil should mix with the diesel fuel. Is your diesel fuel in the tank really dark colored, which would indicate that a lot of oil is entering the tank and mixing with the diesel fuel? Your photo looks like it is showing a puddle...
I recently had an identical issue with my M35A3. I was convinced that the accessory switch was bad and replaced it. It turned out to be the fusible link. It was erratic - sometimes no problem and then the next time nothing. The fusible link always showed 24 VDC, but would sometimes go open...
I'm assuming that your son is not pumping the brake pedal, but instead is pushing the pedal down and holding it down until you retighten the bleed screw at which time he let the pedal up and fluid in the reservoir is sucked back into the system and the process is repeated?
You need to correct what is wrong before you damage the transmission gears. Adjust the linkage according to the TM first. As Mullaney mentioned you should have free play at the top. If the linkage is correctly adjusted and the clutch still isn't completely releasing, the clutch disk may be...
The oil pan on the 3116 engine is a Cat Pan A. If the pan is in good shape, except for the bottom being pushed in, you should be able to fix it yourself. I've repaired several oil pans with damage that sounds similar to yours. After removing the oil pan, I gook a thick block of wood the...
The next time it won't start, check the spark. I know the coil was replaced, but most of the Chinese coils are junk. Also, have you checked the output from the fuel pump?
If your 1545 transmission is leaking fluid, that sounds like only a seal has failed. I would recommend checking out the possibility that you can replace the seal and still be in business with the 1545 transmission. Seals normally have a part number on them as well as checking the TM for a part...
When I got my MEP003A mounted on a M116A2 trailer, it came with the cover. The cover material was in excellent condition, but virtually all of the seams were rotten and coming apart. I took it to a shop that made tops for boats. They pulled everything apart and re-sewed everything with better...
Very good looking truck. You'll enjoy it. I'm jealous - the recovery of my A3 was 27 hours non-stop in freezing weather from Fort McCoy with a blowout on the way home!
My wife was walking by my M35A3 W/W and noticed a flexible air line hanging down under the truck. Turns out it was one of the 1/4-inch pneumatic lines running from the hydraulic winch to the shifter tower in the cab. Damn rats again. The rat chewed the tubing through just where it does...
Not true, or at least it wasn't true in the past. I titled my 1969 M35A2 in Georgia with the SF97 back in 2009. One caveat, I didn't go through my local county office. I went directly to the Georgia Dept of Revenue office in Atlanta. They only handled titles there. For the tag I had to take...
From what I've read, it sounds like the alternator may be the culprit. You mentioned that it came straight from the military and also that the alternator was dismounted and laying on the floorboard. In my mind it is possible that someone in the military diagnosed the problem as a bad...
Is it possible that the control arm was bent, making it slightly shorter and this is why the holes don't line up? If so, when the control arm was bent that may be what caused the bolt to shear off.
Clint, I saw from your first post that you were likely going to add a larger fuel tank. Did your genset com with the auxiliary fuel line? That is the way to go since the aux fuel pump on the MEP003A will pull fuel through that line and keep the day tank topped off. I have an MEP003A that I've...
