Simple Manual Glow Plug Switch Question

As the title says this is a simple question. I am going to do the manual glow plug switch on my 1985 M1009. It looks very very simple. I have two simple questions though. 1: What gauge wire should I splice in the blue wire with and what gauge to run the ground? I am electrically challenged and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Finished putting Chassis Saver on my new 31 gallon tank, put it on my Dana 44 knuckles and caliper brackets. I bought the matched set Dana 44/Dana60 with 4.56 gearing back before I knew much about axles(not saying I know a lot now, just more) I just started tearing into it today and found out...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just got the new fuel tank in. Bled the system and it runs. The fuel gauge STILL does not work. I am at a loss. I guess it's time to go check the connections again. I know the ground is good. I wonder if there is something wrong with the pink wire. Hmmm.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I dropped the old tank. There it is in all it's glory. I put Chassis Saver on the new 31 gallon tank. While I had it out I also put some Chassis Saver on the under carriage and the frame rails where I could reach. I will hopefully put it all in tomorrow. I also worked on the new axles I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Man, that sucks. Have you thought about using a product other than Kat's? I want to put a freeze plug heater in mine, but I just haven't done it yet. I am very skeptical about getting heir brand after all the troubles you have had with yours.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just finished fixing my mirror as it started to snow. My passenger side mirror was hanging on by one screw. The other two pulled through. So I used three 1 x 1/4" hex head bolts, six 1/4" washers, three 1/4" lock washers, and three 1/4" nuts. After taking off the door panel two of them were...

Ordered a fuel tank, sending unit, tank straps, and fender.

    Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Did you ever mount up the 31 gallon tank, sending unit, and straps? I am looking at doing the same and was curious how yours turned out.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

The motor series ended if I remember right in 1984. Make sure it comes with the washer pump. Starting in (I think) 1985 GM started using new motors that did not have a built in washer pump. It's actually a very easy swap.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just put the correct wiper motor on and tested it. It runs much faster now, the wiper pump still works, and the blades will park instead of playing the timing game. All in all other than freezing to death I think it turned out rather well. This also might be a first that I do mechanic work...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I know I could make it work. I compared the two side by side and they look identical, save the pump parts. I just don't want to go through the hassle of putting on a separate pump.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Went to put on a new wiper motor. Turns out in my 1985 M1009 they used the older wiper motor. So the one i bought won't work. Picking the other up tomorrow to switch it out.

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

Thanks a bunch. I'll get one ordered!

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

In my stupidity back then thinking it was broke I pitched it. I did read that entire article, but that poster did not use a single 300 Ohm resistor. He used 3 100 Ohm 1W resistors. I don't know if that means the watts add up to 3, or if it stays at 1. I know nothing about that electrical type...

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

I looked at getting a resistor. There are 300 Ohm resistors with different wattage. For example 300 Ohm 5W or 300 Ohm 10W. Does it matter which resistor I get?

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

Well that fixed it. Only now did I realize that I got a 12 volt gauge instead of a 24. So now I have to buy a 24 and switch it again. Thanks again for all the help.

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

Just checked and the fuse is blown. I will pick up some fuses tomorrow while I am in town. Hopefully that will fix it all. I really appreciate all the help. I will report back once I find out that it did or did not fix it.

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

Thanks for the quick answer. I will have to wait until daylight tomorrow to check it, but I will do that.

    M1009 Voltmeter question.

Before I go into what's wrong I just would like to add that I was very new to working on vehicles at the time that I did this, and now I know I did something very very bad and wrong. That being out of the way here is my question. I replaced my voltmeter a while ago, and forgot/did not...
