M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Roof Rack Finished up the roof rack. Made from 1/8" thick 1.5" aluminum square tube, 4" aluminum flat bar, and LOTS of 3/16" rivets. Same design as on my HSTRU trailer. I am putting a rooftop tent (RTT), 8' awning, shower awning, and solar panels on it. Went together well and seems pretty darn...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Scott, Thanks! The heaters I purchase from eBay. I find a US seller and look over the pics of what is included. I have ordered from different sellers with good results. Most of them are around the $100 price range. currently working on fabricating a roof rack, adding batteries, and deciding how...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Heaters and light bracket... This project is going to have a roof top tent (RTT) that opens off the back of the trailer and will include a awning room under the tent that will enclose the back of the trailer. Based on that i installed two 5000 btu diesel heaters. One heats the inside of the...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Lowered 2.5" Used the Steel Soldiers "another way to lower an 1102" technique and lowered the trailer 2-1/2". This is the 4th 1102 i have lowered and it went fairly smoothly. This time i was doing an axle swap so i disconnected the brake lines completely. I moved the axle back 1/4" to center...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Tailgate cables... I was dreading messing with these cables. The trailer only had the inside brackets and bolts, no cables so i wasn't sure how this would go. I had to go thru two pairs of cables to find ones that would work. Finally found a pair on eBay that worked. They are for 07-03 Chevy...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Tailgate Hinges are same as 1102 stock tailgate however the opening is more narrow... Hmm, what to do. 1102 tailgate won't fit and i wasn't sure if the height would be a problem. Didn't want to build a gate from scratch so I picked up a surplus new tailgate off of eBay and took a chance on...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Home and pressure washed... twice! Lots of parts removed and surplus prices are a little too pricey for my taste so i picked up a couple of 1102s out of PA. These are home safe as well. Same procedures in recovery no issues on 850 mile return from PA to Missouri.

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Recovery pics 15 minutes after i got to the yard put on scrap tongue jack, borrowed hitch and borrowed bearing caps from one of my other trailers. I ordered new bearing caps but didn't put them on. Cheap zip ties from HF used to hold the rolling doors down. Lots of components removed from the...

M1102 Shop Trailer Build - Overland Project (as I go)

Here we go again! Found this little guy in Georgia and had a wacky idea to build a big brother version of my HSTRU camping trailer... Looked really beat up but the basics are there including a from the factory spare tire carrier under the bed. I have already done quite a bit of work on it over...

Another way to lower an M1101/M1102

Thanks! This trailer will have a dry weight of around 2800 pounds so I wanted some rebound damping. Might just be a mental thing on my part for wanting to keep the shocks. I have found that just about all the trailers i have picked up the shocks are blown out and not providing any damping...

Another way to lower an M1101/M1102

mainoffroad, For this project the M1102 is a derivative trailer (secret project?) and the way it came the tire/axle sat fairly far forward of center in the wheel well. So i moved it back slightly. I have a plan for the shocks but i have parts soaking in rust remover before i mess with shock...

Another way to lower an M1101/M1102

Just lowered another 1102 with this method. Pics of the cutout using a cheap jigsaw and a metal cutting blade. Worked great just have to move slowly when cutting. Used little squirts of WD40 on the blade about every 30 seconds of cutting. 4th trailer i have used this method on. Can't emphasize...

M116A3 from Chambersburg - pull or load out?

Just picked up and pulled two 1102 chassis trailers from PA last week over 800 miles to Missouri. Hooked up wiring adapter checked hubs often and was on my way. Had spare tires and lots of tools just in case including full wheel bearing set and seals. No temp plate. Had mag lights if needed but...

What did you do to your trailer today.

Can you post part numbers for hub, bearings, and seals please? OD

Another way to lower an M1101/M1102

I used a cheap jigsaw with metal blade and WD40 to make an arch cut and it worked great. Have done 3 trailers this way. The aluminum on the big vertical brace that the axle and shock are mounted to is low grade aluminum (3003?) not 6061. OD

Another way to lower an M1101/M1102

ChemicalSFC, I have lowered three 1102 trailers with this method and about to do a fourth. I just used a 4" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel VERY carefully to grind off the bolts to remove the brake line brackets. Its awkward but i did it. Then used a 16d nail and a hammer to knock them out...

MEP-903 Generator In S-805 Electronic Repair Shelter - Road To Startup

Pic of the battery setup and harness to the shelter. Going to figure out a mount on the back of the trailer for a permanent install.

MEP-903 Generator In S-805 Electronic Repair Shelter - Road To Startup

Guess I better put up some pics or it didn’t happen... It’s kind of funny firing up the generator inside the shelter because the startup procedure using the APU has no power inside so have to use a flashlight to see the control box. Going to fix that with some DC lighting off batteries...

MEP-903 Generator In S-805 Electronic Repair Shelter - Road To Startup

Overdue Update: Took a break from the 805 and 903 project i was getting too frustrated but recently starting working on the 903B again. I have been using the shelter itself as a HAM radio and general hang out spot in my workshop since i brought it home. MEP-903B Update (Over speed light)...

MEP-903 Generator In S-805 Electronic Repair Shelter - Road To Startup

UPDATE: Finally was able to get the gen up and running. Unfortunately, as surplus projects go, I had a few issues and a few still to fix. Cleaned up the get set, changed the oil and filter, replaced all the soft fuel lines. Checked the radiator for coolant and didn't see any so went to top it...
