    3/4 ton axle swap

Believe me, the pictures don’t tell the true story. The rockers are gone on both sides, inner and outer. not rusty, not rotted, gone. Floors, toast, holes through the firewall, cab corners gone, bed floor ventilated, every body and bed support you can almost push you finger through. The frame is...

    3/4 ton axle swap

Because my plow truck (a 1985 GMC K2500) has quite literally rotted away. It’s far and away the rustiest vehicle I’ve ever personally seen. The picture doesn’t truly tell the tale. With nearly 99% of that rust/rot happening before I got it. I’ve decided to get my M1009 back on the road and throw...

    M1009 steel brake line diameter/size

These trucks use the standard 45 deg double flare on the brake lines. Any off the shelf non-metric flaring tool will do the job. Some just better than others. They are also seen in the refrigeration industry. 37 deg flares are A/N standard seen in aviation, some marine and aftermarket racing...

    M1009 steel brake line diameter/size

So as I figured one of the lines that runs below the radiator for the front brakes was severely rusty and blew out. Also as expected and mentioned by several other members. Most if not all of the steel line in the front of the truck are equally poor looking. So now begins the slow and arduous...

    M1009 steel brake line diameter/size

I don't plan on messing with stainless lines. I have a hydraulic flaring tool but it's not rated for stainless. I'm planning on using the nickel/copper mix lines or regular coated steel. Stainless is too expensive and hard to work with. Not worth it for my truck. Thanks for all the info

    M1009 steel brake line diameter/size

Does anyone know what diameter the steel brake lines are on a M1009. Had a line blow out on me last night on my way to work. Not with the truck right now so I can measure myself. Trying to do some shopping for a 25-50ft roll of brake line and fittings to replace most of the lines on the truck...

How strong is the brush guard?

I'm not looking to deer proof my truck. I was more concerned with knowing whether or not as a group people thought the brush guard is strong enough to warrant the effort of making the fender bars I want. As in will it damage easily if any kind of pressure is put on it from the bar. I'm confident...

How strong is the brush guard?

Rustyshackleford, PM info on the mount. I'd like to make it myself. But if the price is right I'd buy a kit and spend the effort elsewhere.

How strong is the brush guard?

Just like the title says. How strong do you guys think the brush guard really is? I plan on installing a winch and making up a mount very similar to this one. I'd also like to run some fender bars from my rock sliders to the grille guard. Like on this Landcruiser. The question is do you think...

Sound proofing, is it worth the money and time?

Honest and straight forward, I like it.

Sound proofing, is it worth the money and time?

Plain and simple as the title implies. For those who have done it or know someone who has. Was the expense/effort required in sound insulating a M1009 worth it in the end? I know how I can do it. Carpeting, dynomat or the like, bed liner etc... But did it do enough? I'm not looking to reinvent...

Rear wheel lock up while braking

Now that I have my truck on the road again I wanted to post my solution to close out this problem. The culprit here appeared to be contaminated brake shoes. After replacing a set of frozen u-joints on my front axle shafts and replacing the damaged manual hubs from said earlier seized u-joints...

    Instrument light issue

I did a thorough cleaning a few years back when I first got the truck. As only some of the lights worked. After that everything was great up until recently. I guess there's not many other options except taking the dash out and trying again.

    Instrument light issue

The instrument lights on the dash of my truck stopped working. Whenever you try to turn them on. The fuel gauge zeros out and the right turn signal indicator on the dash comes on. I also get a little feedback coming through the high ram indicator. All the other lights and gauges still work...

    Glow plug Voltage

That's a great explanation and it makes perfect sense to me. My truck has a "glow plug saver" system installed in it from a previous owner. I suspect it might be an old Alpha truck. Works but I'm pretty sure I have a few bad plugs. Gonna put a set of Wellman 70s I have in and see what's what...

    Glow plug Voltage

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Which I may be. But I remember reading that the original 24v Wellman 70 glow plugs actuall run on 12 volts and the civilian 12volt glow plugs run on 6 volts. Or is it straight forward 24volt and 12 volt? Can't remember where I heard that but I can't shake that...

Rear wheel lock up while braking

If I get home from work tonight on time I'm gonna try to swap the drums and see what happens.

Rear wheel lock up while braking

I appreciate all comments. Just stating I've checked off that box on the list.

Rear wheel lock up while braking

Hulk I had both lines off and blew them out with compressed air. No obstruction in either line or the splitter.
