Let me preface this by saying, Yes I could test this on my own set. However, it is currently stored away unless needed for power backup and would involve a lot of work to deploy it and then store it again for a simple test so it is so much easier to just pose the question to someone who may...
Looking closer at the photos It looks to me like the air in/out is coated in white drywall dust. I bet 2 years of sucking in drywall dust would have a lot to do with it not working anymore.
Looking for some input on these Chocktaw H140 multi fuel heaters. Someone somewhat close to me has a listing for 3 of them at $100 each. Says they used them for a couple of years and now none of them work anymore. One of them has the remote control.
For the price I kinda figure it would be fun...
Bum deal but for $900 dollars I don't think you did too bad. Plenty of good parts on that set you could easily get your $$ back and then some.
When I needed some parts for my set I found a guy on that auction place who I dealt with and he got me the parts I needed at a very good price.. He...
What? No pics?
If it were me I would just start taking off the enclosure panels, exhaust, the head, pull the access panel off the side of the block and start seeing what the problem is. I think either way you found water in there so it would be wise to take it all apart and...
You are asking why should you spend the money for one of these USED (maybe even abused) generators instead of buying a new consumer model.
If you need to be convinced it is a better purchase by all means just get the generac. I can tell you the reasons I chose the 803a for my backup generator...
If you are interested in selling the trailer once you get the set off I might be interested.
Another member has an 803 with a junk engine he is parting out in the classifieds.
I am kind of surprised by the responses here. I am close to this set as well and saw the ad, to me I would rather gamble $1700 on a set that looks like it is probably fixable on a nice trailer over the junk I have been watching go on GP for twice the price.
You don't really need to check the connections as much as you need to get some electronic contact cleaner and douche the inside of the switch while you work it back and fourth a bunch of times. (power off of course)
I recommend Deoxit in spray form. The 5% stuff will work fine. I used the...
Good tips. I did consider adding a relay and making it latch so that if the switch opens it is no longer latched and power would not be re-applied unless a reset button was pressed. I could also add in a warning light on the outside to indicate overtemp but then I could really get carried away...
So another quick update. I added in a high temperature cutout switch for an additional safety measure. I happened to remember just a couple weeks ago I pulled off a thermo-switch from a heatsink I found in the scrap bin. Dug it out and looked up the specs... Perfect! it was a open on rise switch...
I would like to make some kind of waterproof canvas cover customer fitted to the generator. Right now I just keep a tarp over it. Normally it stays inside my garage which never gets below the upper 30's but for this winter I decided to store it outside and let my truck have the nice protected...
So let me start out by saying that the objective here was a small heater I can plug in to keep the engine in my 803 warm(ish) when I know it is going to be cold and a good likely hood of power outage. I feel pretty comfortable knowing that the genset will start in cold weather but I do not want...
When I first got mine it was coated in dust and dirt mostly. I took it all apart and cleaned everything I could reach with hot water and dawn soap (or maybe it was simple green?) and a microfiber rag. Took a while but eventually I got it pretty clean. Then I repainted the engine with stove paint...
Well when I had issues getting the hose to seal properly on the Jeep I used to have which had an all aluminum radiator I ended up putting some ultra black RTV on the hose nipple before sliding on the hose and it never leaked again. I was using the good quality T bolt style hose clamps too but...
