Single out on stock wheels and tires

That's closer to a 395, which is about 46 inches in diameter. 12.00x20 tires seem to be between 44 and 46 inches. Based on what we've talked about so far, bigger tire options for running singles on regular deuce rims are: 11.00x20 tires, which are close to the 14.5R20 or 365/80R20 at about 43...

Single out on stock wheels and tires

I think it would look more like this, but with regular deuce rims: That's a Canadian-built deuce, which I think had a Cummins diesel, an automatic transmission, and bolt-together rims.

Single out on stock wheels and tires

The M34 and M135 trucks ran single 11.00x20 tires, which Google says are about 43" in diameter. They fit on stock deuce rims. The super single about the same diameter is a 365/80R20 or 14.5R20, which is what the M35A3 was built with, but that's a wider rim too. I think the 11.00x20 is worth...

Single out on stock wheels and tires

I have a stud installation tool I got for my 1-ton van. It's a thrust bearing with which you use an impact wrench and a suitable nut to pull the stud into where it belongs. It's similar to this: https://www.lislecorp.com/specialty-tools/truck-wheel-stud-installer The thing that would...

    Serial number

Is this what you're looking for? Or are you looking for the wheel bearings too? This stuff should be available from most military truck parts websites. The front axle seals might be the same as those on the M35A2. I'm not certain, but I don't think the axles on the truck changed much...

    M35A3 Oil Pan CAT 3116

The parts manual says: NSN 2815013983364 Part # 108-1233 OIL PAN I googled the part number and couldn't find the pan that matches it. Getting a hold of your local Cat dealer might be your best shot. The engine is supposed to take around 5 gallons of oil, so the pan should accommodate that...

    Electrical Overheating M35A2

I'd say there's definitely a short somewhere that's cooking the batteries. I hope that somewhat isolates the issue. I say that having not really studied the wiring diagram. Something must've worn out to cause the problem.

Turn signals only work once truck is warm

I think MVPA's Supply Line magazine recently ran an article about gutting the flasher box and putting new, reliable guts in it.

Turn signals only work once truck is warm

I just checked my M35A2 maintenance TM. The flasher unit should be located inside the left front fender (driver side). Please see attached PDF.

Turn signals only work once truck is warm

I believe there's a flasher unit in the engine compartment somewhere. I don't know the location offhand as I've never had a reason to look for it. I'm pretty sure the old ones are mechanical. There are newer solid state ones, but it seems the newer replacement ones have longevity problems.

Turn signals only work once truck is warm

@Dylandeuceman95 have you noticed if the outside weather or air temperature affects how long it takes to start working? I was wondering if there were mechanical contacts that are worn out and only work if they've expanded a little bit due to engine compartment heat. Dumb answer: Maybe the...

    m931 canvas top rear window

That's really cool! I had no idea that was a thing. The zipper on the back of my deuce's cab top came off the rest of the top, so maybe this will be the thing to help me get it back together. That or glue... Either way, this is going to be in my toolbox at some point (y)

    Should I drive this?

I agree with this. I grew up with my dad doing extended oil change intervals on his trucks, doing it every few years or so. He's never had any engine issues. I do the same with my deuce as a result. For reference, we don't drive our trucks more than 500 miles per year. The Army does...

    M35A3 Transmission Swap 1545 to 545 questions

I hope these help: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m35a3-trucks-allison-at545-1545-service-manual.200257/ https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/tms-for-the-deuce.77607/ For the second link you're looking for manuals for the M35A3 and/or Extended Service Program trucks. Ctrl+F will...

    M35A3 Transmission Swap 1545 to 545 questions

The general support TMs have instructions for doing a 1545 to 545 swap. I believe an adapter plate is the only new part required for the swap - can't remember for sure. It seems the Army was anticipating the lack of 1545 transmissions and made the instructions as a result. If it were me, I'd...

    M35A3 Air assisted steering

That "black thing" is the regulator. Have you tried following the troubleshooting steps in the unit direct support and general support manual, volume 1? I think some owners on here bypassed the regulator, which solved many of their steering assist system problems. I've left my system alone as...

    Finally got me a deuce!

How original-looking do you want to keep your truck? I think any 90 degree pipe fitting with compatible threads would work. That's what I would do.

    Got the M35A3 home

I chose my words poorly - I meant the original look. 14.5R20 and 365/80R20 tires are equivalent size. I found that out from hours of research on this forum sometime ago :) They're about 43 inches in diameter while the 395/85R20 tires are about 46 inches in diameter. I find that from some...

    Got the M35A3 home

Congratulations on your trade! Depending on how original you want your truck, perhaps consider throwing on some pre-loved 395s for now. That's what I have currently. However, I'm considering buying new 365/80R20 tires the next tire change I do.

    Got the M35A3 home

What a nice-looking truck! Glad you got it home safely :) If it's hot outside, like in the upper 80s or 90s, my A3 will run between 200 and 220 degrees with the engine fan cycling on and off. I think the fan is supposed to kick on at 220 degrees. Under normal driving conditions the...
