A pickle fork tends to tear the rubber boots on ball joints and tie rod ends. And never smack the threaded end of either if you plan on reusing them unless you thread the nut back on by hand to break it loose... You risk distorting the threads.

Only if you don't make sure it has an exit point for the foam to expand to. I would NOT go so far as to drill a hole in a sealed tube just to fill it up, because the foam needs to be able to expand and needs a way out.
