    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

Progress update: I have most of the airlines run to the cab and brake pedal is mounted. I am feeding the wiring thru and mocking up the gages. My plan is to get the thing running, then start putting bulkhead fittings on all the air and electrical lines. The cab still has to come off...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

I rotated the box with no real problems, just need to weld up the old holes and redrill some new ones to get all the bolts back in. I am real happy how the brake pedal came out to maintain the ford adjustable pedal system.

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

I Just got back into it. Now that work is slowing down I have free time again. I got the last of the body mounts mocked up, and started on the steering and brake pedal merger. I want to keep the adjustable pedals from the Ford cab so I had to combine it with the airbrake pedal valve. The...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

Sorry, I took a short break. I am still moving into the new shop. I am trying to get it organized before I get to far ahead of myself. I also had to take time to build a new welding table. I brought home a 4'x6' piece of plate to weld legs to to due the job. I think it will hold up to...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

I did have to trim the fire wall just a hair, but no more than a normal F650. The doner parts truck has a small cut out to fit the Cat motor. I made the same mod to accomodate since this cab had a v8. I will trim the small fender a bit to clear the back of the tire to give it a little more room.

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

Well, who hasnt had a brain fart during a project? I finally have the cab sitting where I want it with the hood and fenders lining up real nice. I wrestled with the fitting of the hodd for 2 days cussing and swearing before I noticed I had the front center rad mount in the worong place. I could...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

My first priority is to get the cab on and get it running again. After the cab is done Im planning on doing a full air ride suspension. The girlfriend cant handle the dodge right now do to the rough ride so I have to do everything I can to soften it up. I have never seen a 5th wheel hitch...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

As far as I know its a real pic. I pulled it off the internet, so who knows. I do like it. I wanted a larger truck front end like the F650s and topkicks. I wanted that slopped hood for visibility. Like I said, having a complete donor truck for all the hardware and misc is making it real easy. I...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

Personally Ive never like the international cabs. I went with the fords because of the availability of them. They have been making the superduty cabs for long over a decade now and they are easy to find accessories for. If it was a perfect world, I would have used a Dodge Megacab, but there isnt...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

I'm open to take a look at both options for the wheel well. That pic was easier to just stretch real quick. Ive got the sheetmetal to do that. Im pretty sure Im going to have to pull it down too. The bed sits pretty high on the frame. Im going to find some sheetmetal quick fasteners of somekind...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

I was going to drop one, but I decided I like going far off the highway so Im keeping it. I am going to widen the bed and tailgate, and taper it in at the cab instead of using a dually fender flare. Ill notch it and put a seam in so I can pull off a section to clear the trailer, and pin it on...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

I started off with the idea of finding the right truck to do a 4x4 conversion on. I wanted the 8.3 cummins and an allison. When I priced out the cost of the truck and the cost of a conversion it was just to much. So far, the 5ton, the 4 door cab from a F250, a complete F650 with 24'box to...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

Just need to slide it into place. All the mounts are lining up real good. Mounting it seems to be the easy part. The joy of wiring in all the luxurys of the cab will be fun. I really wish I had 3 more feetof head space in the new shop so I would have been able to use the truck crane, buts...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

Just a quick look at what i started with and the need for a hauler. Loaded down the trailer is around 20klbs. the dodge did the job with plenty of power, but the braking was another story. the 5ton doesnt even feel it. now i just want some comfort in the cab and room for passengers. most of...

    Finally started 5-ton Hauler.....F950

so far things are fitting very well. i swapped the cooler assembly from the donor truck as well, and you would think the same guy designed both trucks. hopefully the superduty crewcab will be mocked up this weekend so i can start lining up/fabbing cab mounts. the plan is to get acan and...
