No beer involved here Ray!:D
However, here's the "hmbawt"
Close call!
While putting the crane through its paces and testing the new capabilitie of 360* (counter clickwise) rotation with the boom up at 45*, i snaged the the glad hand air hose stand with one of the drum spool hydrolic hoses...
Had a chance to do some work with the crane!
Also, removed the swivel limiter which allows a continuous 360* rotation, and extended the 3rd boom out to obtain max length!
A word of caution when rotating 360* and having the boom raised at 45*, the short glad hand hose stand springs tend to hook...
Yes Robb, a Mack!, and she's a great runner!
The said deuce was set on fire late 2010 after the GR in 2010, there is a thread on it somewhere, the truck had a "convoy follows" sign behind the cab. I was getting ready to scrap this truck out when the wrecker hose blew!
Well its together and fully operational! No leaks!
Had to get a little creative when it came to filling the hydrolic oil reservoir, no way to use a funnel and dump out of a 5 gal bucket, this pneumatic barrel pump does 5 gal in about 2 minutes.
This was my first experience working on hydrolics...
Today I'm going to buy some more hydrolic fluid, refill the reservoir and test, I'll be glad to have this thing back up and running!
On a side note, all of the hoses save one that come off the swivel head are standard npt.
Here's a reference pic of the obsolete ermeto fitting.
Ok! Finally getting around to reassemble!
In the beginning when searching for new hydrolic hoses, i went to a local hydrolic house where I was quoted $800.00 for the 7 replacement hoses needed!
Thanks to whoever posted the link in this thread for "Surplus Center", the 7 hoses from them totaled...
Wow, those are good prices, about 30% of what I was quoted today but if the quality is inferior then I don't know. Going to shop a couple other places tomorrow.
With hoses that are exposed to direct uv, painting them might increase longevity.
I need: 2 ea. 1" X 60", 2 ea. 1" X 72", 2 ea. 1/2"...
Took the hoses to a local hydraulic house and the guy is telling me that these hose fittings are standard, do these look different than the obsolete ermeto fittings? What is the difference?
Pulled the guts out.
Notice the keyway slot on the inner hole of the bearing cap, this could be used to keep oil down in the corrosion prone area.
A few more pics of the process.
If a hole were drilled it would have to be right on the edge and that cap is an inch thick.
But, the center hole in the cap where the plug goes through has no seal so i suppose if you kept that area loaded up with penetrating oil it would seep down to the corrosion in question, also you can look...
