    Why do the Hydraulic Head clips fall off.

    Cleaning the plunger and bore with B12 Chemtool, then lapping the piston with clean diesel and holding the plunger in an electric drill has worked for me. I noted milky yellow diesel after 30 seconds of lapping. Never use any abrasive.

    Exactly. The return spring forcing the plunger to the cam lobe should always maintain contact, when the plunger floats is when bad things happen. And that happens with bad fuel, varnish on the plunger or other debris causing stiction. The plunger should always be free. last missing clip...
