    Good question. I'm not an electronics tech - but I've build and rebuilt a few ham radios and amps over the years among other projects. I can read circuit tracings and troubleshoot and solder with the best of 'em, but I think you might want to direct that question to Guyfang, he's a generator...

    MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

    5406s have slightly better peak voltage handling and blocking (i.e. - less likely to sacrifice itself for transient, non-harmful voltage spikes). See PDF attached. I had some MOVs (V14201U) on hand from another project and will get one installed this afternoon when it gets into the 40s outside.

    Checked mine out today, Letterkenney reset fall 2009 (? October, I forget, wrote it down somewhere), the PS mag update/mod came out in May? It's there, just to the left of the A1 rebulator but they used this really weird fuse: Littelfuse Brand KLDR 3 (KLDR-3) 3 Amp (3 A) 600V Midget Time-Delay...
