5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Hard to tell .... does it look like the one in post #36? Did it come with the adapter flange and gear? Those two parts are the specific, hard to find items - not the pump itself, which you can find new for $150 (ebay) I would open the pump cover for inspection, look for signs of wear and also...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Originally that small fitting connects to a smaller diameter return line, to the reservoir. I think it acts just an emergency line. In case the pump was "making" air or relieving very hot oil it would help to direct fluid directly back into the reservoir. It could very well be plugged since...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Even if it all came out of a Multifuel powered 5ton.... from looking at pics of the system I don't think that it would be a "practical" swap, much less a bolt-on operation. Since I don't have any 5tons around in my area I can't really say for sure how do-able it is or not, but for some reason it...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

I can understand that you want to replace the shaft seal and O-rings, and eventually the ball bearing (std #6203, sealed) also, but the vanes and other components? Is there that much wear? If so you may have to consider replacing the rotor and ring as well... Anyways you could measure and...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Glad you solved at least part of all problems concerning your project! Bearings and seals seem to be std.; they should be available online. To all: guess we learned a lesson here: never fully trust the original dataplates and/ or stamped codes.... if it was (mil-) rebuilt :? G.

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Stay calm blackrock....: that is - or looks to be - the right pump, just as it comes out of the 5ton LDS465-1 & -1A engines! And the way its plumbed there is no way that pump could work, other than with the "ring" in the "L" position. (... simply unscrew 4 bolts, pull cover and...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Put it to work......:-P ..... or disassemble and compare with the pics below: Left side shows the ring in (correct) "L" position. That is, pump rotates CCW viewed from shaft end, as it would run in ANY Multifuel engine. Right side is what you should find, according to the stamped code. G.

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Are you sure that pump came from- or is for- a 5ton Multifuel engine? If you look up the Vickers/Eaton catalog (attached, again) you will find there are X- many other variants and applications as well, just for the VTM42 series. Anyways, I suspect that the rated "capacity" (= 4.0GPM) stays in...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

That wasn't a typical MF pump; IIRC he has a Cat engine with a Chevy PS pump...? Not at all. This is straight from the Bosch Hydro-Max TM, page 15: Booster Fluid Source The booster is designed to perform in a flow range of 3.2 to 5.0 gpm. Flow rate through the booster can impact vehicle...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Hi, disregard.... after searching and posting the A. to your Q., I found out you had already deleted your's.........:) Now to respond to your last one.... YES, it's a direct bolt-on BUT..... just in case read this post... Seems every rule has its exception....! G.

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Agree with Tom. Gary, I can understand why you and maybe others are confused .... Hydraulic assisted steering conversion: a lot had to be learned by trial and error and it sure has taken a long way for some of us to get to where we are standing now, regarding complete and accurate info...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

I would say ANY.....! :-) Well, depending of course on what type and size of gear you have. Also, length of pitman arm and tire size. FYR, at least in two cases the Ross HF54 worked well with a pump according to the code# mentioned above (5GPM, 1500psi). I also know that SS-member Baxter (who...

5 ton mf power steering pump on m35a2

Just checked my remaining stock of 5ton MF PS pumps: stamped differently but all 3 are the same code! It would be interesting to see what other versions are out there... According to Vickers/Eaton confusing info and specs (attached pdf-file) and after doing some corrections (!!) the stamped...
