Simple: when you put the top back on, the first-reverse fork missed the large gear's collar. Then, when shifting into reverse, that gear slid all the way to the back of transmission and remained there - which means, engaged in reverse.

Power for the B/U-lamps comes from wire #37 (aux., tractor only) which has its own circuit breaker.

Thanks, yes, it's 100% sealed and obviously eliminates the original oil seal.
....Yes for the ball tipped N/O switch itself, NO for the rest of the body.
