I think this is another case of people being overly cautious. My hunch is that the diesel oil also meets the specs suggested by the gas engine manufactures. It might do to check them.

I use the Delo 400LE 15/40 from costco also. I got it tested after 3k miles and it was showed zero degradation and it has lots of zinc in it as well as other additives. Good stuff. Don't know about the Rotella. Are you a member of MVCCO? Do any of the parades around here?

What is any of that supposed to mean? I have no doubt that there have been failures using synthetic, conventional, or blends. “No failures” is not a reasonable standard as you have no idea what really caused the failure. A better question or standard is: Does a given oil reduce failure rates...

I'd like to compare your Delo 15W-40 w/ZDDP to my Delo 15W-40 without/ZDDP! My results are in a port some time back. I'll likely change my oil next Summer also for another data point.

Nice summary! It is a bit of a tangent, yet related to why the oil and other lubricant formulations are not what they used to be. Like many laws and regulations, the use of ethanol in gasoline has outlived its usefulness. When it was first mandated nearly all gasoline powered vehicles were...

Rustystud uses this stuff: http://zddplus.com/ I did some more poking around and it seems to me that the zinc and phosphorus levels as measured in my Chevron Delo LE 15W-40 are good. I say that based on the links below. Also, the complete lack of boron may suggest that they are not adding it...

Zinc additive Thanks Rusty. This begs the question: How much zinc is needed? Does anyone have an analysis of an oil sample with the proper amount of zinc additive? How do you know what ppm level is proper?

Great post! Wow, my report seems to be a bit better than yours. How many hours on your sample? I wonder how good their measurements are and if they are consistent within a given lab or in comparison to another lab. I searched and found http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ They are a bit cheaper...

Thanks! Based on your data point and mine we're in the same neighborhood. Your iron is higher and I wonder if that means abnormal cylinder liner wear. Did your report include the particle sizes? How many hours on your sample? I recall you having some issues a few months ago (oil pressure...

I changed my White LDT-465-1D oil two years ago and used Chevron Delo LE 15W-40. I had 100 hours and 2900 miles since then. I'm burning a blend of a variety of used vegetable oils, used motor oils, used transmission fluids, used gear oils, waste gasoline, #2 diesel, bioddiesel, etc.I changed...

Any suggestions of a source for synthetic 50w for the transmission (NAPA, Tractor Supply, etc)? I've been looking around and haven't found it.

I posted in another thread about my transmission 3-4 shift issue and oil coming out of tranny all over my clutch. If I drain it again as a part of fixing it or whatever, any suggestions about the best oil to use? I'm willing to use a synthetic that was not available at the time. I recently...
