M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

After taking more items apart, I found there was a ton of rust scale in my coolant reservoir, I bought commercial-grade cleaning vinegar (30% strength, normal vinegar is 5%) and soaked the inside of it over night (off of the truck that is). Tons of scale came out, super nasty. Then since I had...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

This is after the 3rd flush, (Technically flush #10+ since first starting in December lol) still getting some brown at the end of the flow, going to keep doing it but it's definitely getting better: https://youtube.com/shorts/6u93sgtjU3o?feature=share

Honestly I'm not sure what you're getting at, are you saying there is stand-alone corrosion inhibitor systems you can hook up to the engine?

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Ty Sir, the filter does get really hot so I know I have (decent) flow through it lol. The port on this filter-base is much wider than the (Napa?) one that a lof of guys use, and I liked how it was multi-directional instead of having to feed in from the top only. I wound up just using the hoses...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Also since I mentioned it previously, here are some pix of the coolant-filter I installed, I will be changing the spin-on after all this and opening the current one to see how much stuff was caught in the past few months and during the flush, will be interesting to see I think:

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Good to hear on this, I know most of the "material" settles so getting it out of the block quicker will help. I'll do the drain and flushes with the t-stat removed, and then do a final install on the new gaskets / seal / T-stat before adding last round of distilled water and coolant-concentrate.

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

That's a good copy, how much per gallon / the system for the flush? How long should it sit in there before draining out? I guess I'm paranoid about clogging up lines with all the rust it will remove lol.

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Yes Sir I ordered the T-Stat with new seal as well, probably original part in there it's time to come out if opened up I say lol. That's great about the diverter-plug I actually didn't know what that was for but now it makes total sense, thank you!

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

I have to replace a leaking thermostat-housing gasket and noticed the coolant is still rusty / coffee-like so I think it's good to do another system flush on top of this. To do this with white vinegar as suggested, since it is a mild acid, how many gallons to add to the system? How long should...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Uh oh, now I'm lost again lol. Different brands of coolant require different types of test strips for SCA levels?
  12. Defcon-1

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Yes Sir sounds good. The coolant-concentrate I bought from Napa is SCA pre-charged, but not sure how to test I have the correct levels? Could I also just use a SCA charged filter to maintain the levels, (post coolant-filter install), or should I just add some of the SCA liquid after so many...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

The coolant concentrate I bought from Napa (SCA pre-charged) was blue, or, it's a weird kind of purple lol.

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

The concentrate I bought was SCA pre-charged, but would like to monitor it as you mentioned. Is there an additive of just SCA I could add if I wanted to increase the PPM? Or do I have to drain some coolant out and mix the concentrate at a higher ratio? Also, what product would you recommend to...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

This is all just informational, the first "drain" was a total loss of coolant because I had to remove the lower hard-pipe section where the radiator connects to and where it goes into the transmission oil cooler, that was for changing out that leaking hose behind the alternator, so I wasn't able...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Yes Sir I was able to burb it and then added more coolant/anti-freeze to get it to the correct (final) level. Running at 185' now steadily.

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Thanks for the info, I'm going to have to continue to monitor the system over the winter time. The water coming out of the block was super clean after the drain and flushes, I didn't use any acid and thought the corrosion inhibitors in the concentrate would work. The first drain the water wasn't...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

That's a negative on the oil contamination, no presence or evidence of oil in any of the drains. Can you further explain what would constitute as corrosion? On the first couple of drains the water was coming out murky, but not like any chunks or flakes of rust, very small and very fine particles...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

Coolant drain and flush is going really well so far, almost done. On the initial drain, it was very cloudy so instead of doing just distilled water I used garden-hose (city-provided utility) water. I flushed the system 5+ times, filling then running to temp (also taking on the road), and then...

M923a2 Coolant System Drain and Flush:

This is the route I'm going, choosing this over the Zerex 50/50 mix because when using the concentrate it will be cheaper buying 1-gallon distilled waters and adding it to the system. 48 qts = 12 gallons, so buying 6 of these (actually 8 to have extra) and then going to add 6 gallons of...
