Well, I tried posting this a couple nights ago but my neighbor’s place has so little cell phone reception even with a MiFi Verizon gadget I couldn’t get enough throughput to post.
Got the HMMWV down to TN Thursday, 759 miles, 12 hours door to gate, my buddy driving half the distance at about 90...
Thanksgiving weekend 2020, I drove my HMMWV for some local errands, it began making some god-awful noises (like some prankster had tied a 1/2” zip tie around a driveshaft but more metallic), I got it home into the garage, and did my best to figure out what the heck was making the noise.
I poked...
Few years ago, I bought a seat belt kit. My truck HAD the MWO done already, just needed belts. Turned out it was just easier to buy the whole kit, cheaper too, than look for new belts alone.
So I stashed the aluminum reinforcement plates and doo dads until I was fitting the X-doors and...
Two down, two to go. Then a little paint touchup... might even give the truck a once over so it all more or less matches.
Behr paint holds up well, I think. Generator’s weathered well.
Finally got around to starting a project I’d put off for a year - almost two - refinishing a set of x-doors.
Fronts had been painted desert sand/tan fr some reason, I have a set of light steel armor plate I’m still not 100% decided on attaching. Got some glass, miscellaneous screws/fittings...
I did when I dropped my tank, cleaned it, changed the sender, gasket and filler hose, and THAT thing. WHAT a bear to get it onto the pickup tube. Took more effort than I’d expected sanding/buffing, pressing it into place.
When I die, heaven will be me punching engineers in the face all day...
Any particular make/model you recommend? Please don’t say Snap-on.
If I had my life to live over again, I would’ve started buying snap-on tools at yard sales/flea markets when I was 20.
Now? This close to retirement I can’t justify the price for the amount of use I might get and my kids just...
Changed out the 60A alternator to 200A months ago, got everything assembled, belts tight, etc. Scrounger stopped by for the alternator, I asked him if he thought everything looked right, he thought the belts looked a little loose. So I tinkered w/ them a bit, gauge WAS showing they’d...
I finished the ten rounds, taking the truck for a short drive a couple days, drained and filled five more times until water came out ALMOST clear, finally said the heck with it (I AM running your system by the way), rust color’s coming back again, but I DO have several bottles of Prestone...
Yesterday/today:
Had the ONE warning label, but could SWEAR I also had one with either and RF or lightning bolt symbol around here somewhere, but can't find it - if it ever existed.
IS there another sticker/decal?
I’ve got a mini-still (from Rebel Brewer’s about ten years back... which handed records over to BATFe who sent me a note warning it’s not to be used for distilling spirits... something about George Washington fielding an army larger than his Revolutionary War army against farmers and home...
I changed out the power steering pump and harmonic balancer a couple weeks back; while I had the cooling stack out I got a good look inside the radiator. Looks like one of those magic moon gardens I had as a kid but only white crystals.
I thought I’d treated that two years ago, flushed the...
Took mine out for a ride yesterday, local muscle car/collector car meetup in the parking lot by a Starbucks and a Roy Rogers restaurant, been going on for years.
Found a spot next to two other HMMWVs, one owned by “Melvin” and another I have no idea who it belonged to; there was a CUCV too but...
Getting it back together isn't too hard. As far as sealing against air loss goes, there's not much of a seal on the end that goes to the driver toe heater tube.
I have a tube of paintable caulk and I plan to run a bead along the FRONT edge where the cross-piece meets the frame and dog house...
Got into replacing broken down heater ducts. NOWHERE in the manual does it say the idiots at the American General factory used some kind of glue to hold the bottom of the diverter and the dashboard and cross-piece in place.
Took HOURS poking and pounding with old wood chisels and paint...
