This site's image handling is challenging in my opinion–
I can see that. If I redid the chart for the shift points it would illustrate your point better.
I will be watching your experience with the lockers when you start that thread. I haven't noticed you or @Keith Knight complaining about traction on adventures, is it a bigger issue than I think?
Here is a spreadsheet (a photo of one) showing the various crawl ratios/mph for 3.90, 3.07, EcoHubs or not. I agree the 3.90's are best with what we currently have and 4.5's with EcoHubs would be cruising 63 at 1,600 rpm in seventh. That would be the sweet spot—
I haven't driven these in snow or ice as yet, though on sand and mud the AWD is not my choice. Something about the 30/70 does not feel solid. In MODE's 50/50 mix she powers through much more cofidently.
There is more than the power band to high crawl ratios. I am not the type to rock crawl...
Perhaps not in trucks this large? Though in the Land Rover Series III trucks I have refurbished we used the slotted washers and bent over the washer edges to hold the axle nuts. The force to keep a properly installed axle nut is minimal. I am having a hard time believing a properly installed...
Better to await a replacement? Where this is going a 'Bubba threadlock' could be challenging in the future; replacing inner or outer bearings; repacking inners; replacing CTIS seals, wheel seals. When on the road choices must be made, when at home better to wait?
hmmm. My lock rings match yours and I noticed in the Youtube video they are also heftier.
I am no engineer, though the amount of force on the lock rings from properly pre-tensioned bearing nuts should be small. Someone with more expertise will chime in—
A few more miles down the road since the switch. Still happy and enjoying a totally new truck. Here is a video cruising down the interstate at 75 with the windows open—
I enjoyed meeting Colt this weekend, and picked up some of his CTIS hub rebuild kits, too.
The drive down and back was a breeze. With the ECO HUBS she cruises at 60, still looking for a plug and play tachometer, though i'd guess right about 1,600 rpm in 6th gear—
I am not sure about whether the engine or transmission generates the most heat. Though I read here (on the forum) that A0 units had the transmission cooling loop routed in to the cooling system differently than later units. I have wondered if there is a convenient port to add a temp sensor to...
Sure. Wife is out of town this weekend, where shall we meet?
Hondo would be good. I have a client developing a project in Natalia and visiting the site would be good for me, too—
First test drive with the ECO HUBS went fabulously. Much quieter, smoother, cooler (hovered near 200, fan did not kick on), and she cruises at 60 like she is walking diligently. When the transmission hits that next gear at 60+ she leaps forward like she wants to run.
Thank you @Xengineguy...
I may be. You all know much more about these vehicles and systems than I likely ever will. I appreciate all you share. Now that I have ordered the ECO HUBS I am on to how to best replace my bricked (5 steady lights) CTIS with a manual system based upon your design that suits my asthetic for...
I agree the axles are over spec'd and the likely reason for the 2:1 wheel hubs is to keep the pumkins smaller with larger RP teeth. I do not doubt the axles can carry the stresses our use cases are likely to encounter, even off road on challenging trails.
I disagree the torque on the axle...
