Glad it cleared, however it's just going to do it again at the worst possible time. It sucks but I would drain and remove the tank and boil it out. I used Marine Clean from por 15. I heated the tank on a coleman stove with the solution inside, rolled it around the yard a while and repeated...
I also would spend some time making sure the pickup tube in the tank is clear. According to an article I have in my archives the tube has no filter on the end and sits about 1/2" above the bottom of the tank. Depending on how clean/dirty your tank is it may be clogged. In the article they...
The fuel pump has drain holes in the bottom, the manual makes mention of this and stated if fuel is leaking from them the seals have perished. Just like a weep hole in the bottom of a water pump dripping indicating a seal has gone bad.
I was mistaken on the wire identification, after looking closer at the picture the wire that was loose is the + connection, the smaller wire with the Packard connector is the sense wire. Still same outcome as reported before, no fault of the electrical system will cause your engine to run...

That location above the fuel tank is the correct location for the M11, although it is tight as you say. Be careful on that fender mounted one, don't catch your shoe on it and take a header! Actual footage of Operation Urgent Fury shows the MERDC painted goat with a yellow bridge plate...
There is transfer case troubleshooting in the -34 TM, but it does sound like something is worn allowing it to slip out. There is a thread here on another member changing one out with some pictures, might be worth taking a look at. The worst part about these machines is the one off drive train...
