Yes, you'll have more power because you have less surface area for the resistence. Most people think the biggest piston is the best...not always.

Disc brakes are gradually starting to show up on more and more heavy trucks. When I was in the whole hydroMax search and info search on it PLUS Rockwell retrofit search, I saw a lot of info about them outlasting drums and air calipers, more resistant to fade, and other positive info.

Residual valves, does the stock system have them? Yes or no? Would you need them, ...there's your answer. Residual valves hold a small amount of line pressure so the system basically doesn't have to start from scratch as far as line pressure to actuate the brakes. I believe drum brake...

For the amount of times that 12v boost motor is going to run, why worry about getting a 24v motor? Slap a couple of wires to a switch or whatever from one battery and call it a day. It really is only a momentary draw and not like something always eeking away juice from one battery.

You may want to check with an International parts desk. See if they can locate one since they were later model civvy (commercial) and military.

I originally posted early in the thread that they were available in 12 or 24V. Mine is 12 volt.

Yep, 50.8mm I believe is cast onto the side of the housing. ...yeah, so 2". You may want to reread a few of my early posts. There are some HydroMAX details in there that may be helpful...especially the brake power multiplication vs hydro-boost. These are massive in comparison.

One other time the electric booster comes on is if you get into your vehicle, put you foot on the brake and hit the key. The control circuit (factory stuff) would tell the motor to spool up because the engine isn't running and brakes are being asked for by the pedal being pushed. Basically...

Absolutely! It is a separate front and rear system for a two axle truck in it's original application so I would say to pick up an adjustable proportion valve from Jegs or Summit and slap it in the rear line and adjust it until you're satisfied with the braking results.

Since the thread got kicked up again I'll offer an update: Over three years later and my HydroMax braking system is still working great! [thumbzup] ...and Jake, thanks for answering some questions in my absence. You did good!

Jake, I found a very good detailed pdf format of the Hydro-Max from, I think, Bosch. I would not run anything else after mine as it wasn't that way from factory. I would find one specifically set up like that or, which may happen, run another pump for PS like what seemed to be pretty standard...

RE: Re: Hydro-Max Brake Assist *pics added* (long read) OH, and the elec pump motors can be purchased in 24V.

RE: Re: Hydro-Max Brake Assist *pics added* (long read) Is the electric motor automatically cutting in when the pressure drops? Factory wiring has the electric motor on a relay with a couple different triggers...if I've understood the literature correctly. Engine off, key off, press brake and...

Tim, I'll look for those parts today!!! Had a deadline to make the brakes work and was busting my hump to get them going-

Try and get the pump or if they're both Saginaw pumps, pull the outlet fitting, pressure valve and spring all out of the original H-Max pump. I found that pump to have more pressure and flow then a 3/4 or 1 ton pump. *most* of the ones I had found ran seperated systems for brake and steering...

RE: Hydro-Max Brake Assist (long read) Just a quick update on my Hydro-Max brake system...was a little surprised not to hear from a couple people about this updated system so thought I'd follow up. It is working absolutely flawlessly and I could not, in any way, ask for it to perform any...

RE: Hydro-Max Brake Assist (long read) Good call Gimp...I hung a pedal. Got the pedal assembly from the International S1700 the booster came from. I made up a mount that bolts onto the stiffener between the firewall and dash at steering column. Reinforced it all with angle iron top and...

RE: Hydro-Max Brake Assist (long read) I'll have pictures up in a couple of hours. I ended up finding a nice York air conditioning pump, the kind that are easily converted to onboard air systems, and mounted that where the old compressor was. Don't have it plumbed yet but that will give me on...
