I just want to take a moment to point out how awesome you are for going through this effort  It's easy to think about how you want to use a system or maybe to make it easy for an inspector to sign off on it - people often forget though that power company people need to be able to...

There was a thread a while back on building an enclosure for a 003, not quite the same thing, but the principals are the same. Isolate mechanical vibration of the generator from the enclosure/structure, then absorb the heck out of the airborne sound. For Dirt/Mud Dauber Wasps, you'll need to...

I realize I should also caveat, that it won't make enough of a difference having a ground rod near the generator if it is directly struck by lightning - anything attached to the generator's electrical system will be cooked. For true lightning protection, you want to look at installing a...

Neutral is bonded to ground in one place only on an NEC compliant residential/commercial electrical system. This single bond is to ensure that any faults will clear when either the current from line-to-neutral via ground is too high in a non-GFCI circuit (overcurrent), or by ground fault...

Of course make sure that neutral stays bonded to ground somewhere in your system when the load is switched over to the generator. You shouldn't need to worry about multiple ground rods creating a loop, but you definitely need to worry about having ONLY one neutral to ground bond for your system.

People gotta remember that the inspectors are doing the inspection against a code that was written to prevent injuries, loss of life, and hazards to the surrounding buildings and the public at large. When an inspector comes around to a house where the owner has pulled permits, makes...

Two layers of hardware cloth sandwiching one layer of stainless screen. Hardware cloth gives the screen some structure and keeps out the bigger critters, screen keeps out the smaller ones.

A professionally trained Engineer will tell you, if we don't truly understand it, we design its use in such a way as to mitigate the risks if we made a mistake.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm on the road right now. I think I spoke to the filtering subject in a previous post, a fuel filter which circulates only the fuel in the aux tank will catch sediment and algae and water and return it to your tank. I think you ended up doing just a simple inline...

The sticking point I've come to is the repackaging - putting the Pri-Ocide in a smaller container (that will last a year or more) and then shipping it is killing me. I have too found the drum and 5-gallon pails (I bought a 5-gallon pail), but that looks to be as good as it gets. I wouldn't...

Yes, I have yet to get through my 5 gallon can, and now I'm SOL on new purchases... Well, I will buy a 55 gallon drum, but it'll be the last purchase I expect to make of PRI-Ocide... probably ever :) Initial dose rate is 1:3800 (a hypothetical 55 gallon drum would get about 1/4oz), and the...

Here's something in "your neck of the woods" if your local shop doesn't carry it. [thumbzup] I haven't had experience with that particular product from Power Service, but in my reading the Power Service additives (except for winter treatment and biocide) are about as close to snake oil as you...

Filtration and treatment is the key with old diesel fuel. The quality of the container is a big contributor of the storage lifetime. Plastic may not be legal if they are not rated for fuel storage, steel drums are cheap and DOT rated for carrying in the back of a truck (even a pickup)...

Or if you want to get really serious, perhaps a some 55Galon drums? With oil prices where they are right now, it's probably a good time to do the cash outlay for the first fill-up. Keep it circulated by using it in vehicles (if you have diesel vehicles) or your generator (to replace what you...

What makes it worse is that NG/LPG doesn't do well cold, it can freeze the tank as it expands. If you've piped your genny into the local gas supply, and there is a huge power disruption, the booster compressors that the gas company uses to deliver NG can also fail meaning that you won't have...

If you get one of the bigger drain channel sizes like the part# I linked, a low layer of round pea-gravel in the bottom before laying in the hose will keep the hose out of any standing water which should help it last longer. Gravel instead of sand or dirt will break any surface tension and help...

Quick suggestion before you put the gravel in - drop in a section of drain channel above grade (but embedded in the gravel) to use as a tray for the fuel line - this should remove that as a tripping hazard and protect the hose from being stepped on. Fill in around the drain channel with the...
