tire sizes

Thinking about singling out and putting 14.00x20's on the deuce, but will they fit the rims and not rub each other in the tandems?

Has anyone done this successfully and reliably before?

I have this crude chart, probably full of mistakes, no laughing..

/ just want to let the engine run a little slower on the hiway, 2200 RPM might get me 60MPH?.

9.00x20 = 37.7848" tall = 118.7" circumference = 55.0 MPH
10.00x20 = 40.016" tall = 125.7" C = 58.2 MPH
1100x20 = 40.99" tall = 128.8" C = 59.7 MPH
12.5x20's 41" tall = 128.8" C = 59.7 MPH
14.00x20's 48" tall = 150.8" C = 69.9 MPH
16.00x20's 53" tall = 166.5" C = 77.1 MPH

the 12.5R20 Xl is actually about the same height as a 900x20 ndt

Wouldn't an 11 be an 11 regardless of rim size(20 vs 22.5)? I know its all in vein because different tire maker's tires are different sizes for the same size rating.

14.00 x 20's are 49.4" (according to Michelin) and will not fit factory rims or the truck, the tandems are not spaced out enough. 395 85 R 20 -46.7" inches tall, is the biggest tire you can put on a factory rear setup, but they will also require custom rims.

Lukes mopar deuce has 15.5/80 R20 s on 6 stock rims

15.50's are only approved for 10" or 11 " rims, that's a long stretch from 7 " deuce rims. How do they work? Is it licensed?

good point. the trucks are driven off road more than on road.

Tires seem to work good.

Wallew, where did you get the 6-lug tubeless rims? I been looking, but other than seeng some on an armored car, I can't find any out there.

he put some 46" tires on, giving 2" clearance between rears, and they are 15.5/80R20 on stock rims. Seems a stretch, but it looks great.

I'm open to all kinds of ideas. I definitely like the Michelin XDY1's on your truck.

the BIG RIG tires on the front of my deuce are a throwback, 20" size, and it is true, I cannot detect any real wear after 4500 miles.

I'll start calling the salvage yards again (unfortunately there are >100 !! ) and also maybe try to find out who does UPS tire work. They use skinny rims for sure.

I think I've learned that a 'BUDD" wheel is not necessarily made by Budd ?

So anyway if the idea is to max out the diameter of the wheels, then the choices are limited by the 48" spread between the axles.

For a 20" rim, tire size of 395/85R20 for 46.7" diameter was mentioned as tallest, and then there's the 15.5/80R20 at 46" both requiring a 10" rim and deuce the rim width is 7" !?! I thought they were wider. The 11.00x20 NDT's fit well, but are spec'd I believe for an 8" rim.

Then there are 22.5" rims (and 24.5, but I never seen it in 6-hole). I'm not oppsed to changing, and I could trade/sell my 11.00x20 NDTs and "big rig" toyo steer tires (all with 4500 miles on them) and my original rims, to help offset the cost. I recall paying about $300 each for those steer tires but they have been worth every cent.

I doubt I would go for cu$tom rims, methinks they could be $500 or more.

Here's another thing to throw in - Luke mounted his single 15.5/80R20's with no hub-flip and the rims face the 'normal' way. What would be the opinion of this kind of mounting? It seems like the weight would be mostly on the inner bearing, and less 'angle weight' (or whatever the right term is) issues might arise than from flipping the hubs.

Can 12.5X20 tires be squeezed onto 11X20 wheels? Would being radials make a difference in the fit? I am thinking about mounting them on a 543 wrecker.

Yes, you can put the 12.50R20 tires on 5 ton wheels. No problem, except they are shorter than 11.00x20s. They are the same diameter as a 9.00X20. Probably not a good choice for the wrecker.

I have seen 12.00x20s mounted on M276 Retriever wreckers. That would be a great choice for your M543. A little taller, just a little wider, will fit your stock 5 ton rims fine. John Tennis

the 276 and the 819 call for 1200s , the problem is i cant find reasonable priced 1200s, thats why i most likley will go 1400R20s, the 1200 would be a great 543 tire if it could be found for other then 250+ a tire, i cant see 3000 for tires for my 819, plus tubes, flaps, tire shop mounting

Question please: Are M35 wheels "hub-piloted" or "stud piloted"? I assume stud, but?

Ok, I am confused??? Would MICHELIN X 12. 5 R 20, XLs be taller or shorter/same as the 11X20 NDTs that are already on the wrecker? The reason I am asking is there are some for sale in Texarkana, going off today!
