The tachometer on my truck was acting very erratic and has now stopped working entirely. Is the problem with the gauge or is it something else?

Could be the cable or the tach itself

Pull the cable from the drive and put a drill n it to see if the tach works.

Pulled the tach cable. Not spinning while the engine is running. Either the cable or the piece on the front of the timing chain cover. I have parts on order. Thank you for all your help. I appreciate it!
